For a live YouTube podcast stream, change the viewer-facing title and description in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room—not in your encoder’s connection settings. Open the active stream, edit its settings, save, then check the public watch page. The exact menu labels may shift as YouTube updates Studio. Other platforms have different controls, so this YouTube path is not universal.
Change metadata on a running YouTube stream
- Open YouTube Studio. Go to Go Live / Live Control Room.
- Select the active stream. Open the broadcast that is currently live, rather than a past video or a scheduled event.
- Open the stream settings and choose Edit. Update the title and description fields. YouTube’s help documents editing metadata from the stream settings page; the control’s exact label or placement can change.
- Save and verify. Check the Studio details or public watch page to confirm the new title and description appear. If they do not, reopen the active stream’s settings and confirm the edit was saved.
YouTube says live-stream metadata can be edited in Studio while managing an encoder or mobile stream. Its documentation does not make this a general instruction for every streaming service or podcast platform.
Edit the broadcast, not the encoder connection
YouTube treats the viewer-facing broadcast and the encoder’s incoming feed as separate resources. A liveBroadcast represents the video viewers watch; a liveStream describes the feed sent by the encoder. Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API broadcast guide says the broadcast’s title, description, category, privacy status, and other video metadata can be updated at any time. The live-stream resource documentation explains that liveStream title and description fields are not visible to YouTube users.
That distinction matters if you use OBS or another encoder: changing the stream key, server URL, or encoder feed settings is not the same as changing what viewers see. Make the public title and description edit on the active broadcast in Studio.

If you created the show with StreamYard
StreamYard’s live-stream creation guide describes entering a title and description when setting up a stream and using destination customization for different metadata on selected platforms. Its multistream guide also describes destination-specific title and description fields.
Those guides document setup, not a guarantee that editing a running show in StreamYard will change every destination. For an already-live podcast, use the destination’s own live dashboard if StreamYard does not expose the edit control, and verify the title and description separately on each platform.

Scheduled is not the same as live
If the broadcast is only scheduled, edit its metadata before it starts in the relevant platform’s setup or scheduling controls. StreamYard says scheduling can create an audience-facing post, but the host still needs to enter the studio and click Go Live at showtime. Do not mistake a scheduled post or a connected encoder for a live broadcast.
