To stop Netflix charges, cancel the membership with the company that bills you. For direct Netflix billing, sign in at Netflix in a web browser, open Account or Manage your membership, choose Cancel, then Finish Cancellation. Uninstalling the app, signing out, or removing Netflix from a device does not stop billing.
If Netflix does not show a cancellation button, check the Membership section, your receipts, and your bank statement to identify whether Apple, Google Play, Roku, Amazon, a mobile carrier, or another provider controls the subscription.
Cancel Netflix billed directly by Netflix
- Open Netflix in a web browser and sign in.
- Open Account or Manage your membership.
- Select Cancel.
- Select Finish Cancellation and complete the prompts.
- Record the cancellation status and closing date.
- Keep the confirmation email Netflix sends to the account email address.
- Review Payment History for the billing date and expected final period.
Netflix also references netflix.com/cancelplan as a cancellation route, but the Account page is the normal starting point because links and account flows can change by country.
Find out who bills you
The company shown on the charge generally controls cancellation. Use all three checks:
#1 Best Overall
- HD streaming made simple: With America’s number 1 TV streaming platform,* exploring popular apps—plus tons of free movies, shows, and live TV—is as easy as it is fun. *Based on hours streamed—Hypothesis Group
- Compact without compromises: The sleek design of Roku Streaming Stick won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
- Netflix Account: Look under Membership for billing or package information.
- Email receipts: Search for Netflix, Apple, Google Play, Amazon, Roku, or your carrier.
- Bank or card statement: Identify the merchant that actually charges the payment method.
If Netflix has no Cancel control, follow the partner instructions shown in Membership rather than repeatedly trying to cancel on Netflix.
Provider-specific cancellation paths
Apple
- On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings.
- Tap your name, then Subscriptions.
- Select Netflix.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
Apple says that no Cancel button or an expiration message means the subscription is already canceled. Apple also documents cancellation through App Store account settings on Mac and through account management on the web. See Apple’s cancellation instructions and Apple subscription guidance.
If you later link the account to a carrier package, an old Apple-billed subscription may still need to be canceled separately; Netflix specifically warns about this in its Verizon guidance.
Rank #2
- Ultra-speedy streaming: Roku Ultra is 30% faster than any other Roku player, delivering a lightning-fast interface and apps that launch in a snap.
- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
Google Play
- Open Google Play.
- Open the profile or account menu.
- Choose Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select Netflix.
- Choose Cancel subscription and complete the prompts.
Menu names can vary by Android version and region. If Netflix is not listed, check that Google Play is using the account that received the charge. Google’s instructions are at Google Play subscription cancellation.

Roku
Cancel Netflix in the Roku account or subscription area that issued the charge. Do not close your Roku account as a substitute: Roku says subscriptions must be canceled first, and closing the account can make other Roku purchases and subscriptions unavailable. See Roku’s account guidance.
Amazon or another marketplace
Open the marketplace account that issued the charge, go to its subscriptions or memberships area, select Netflix, and complete cancellation. Save the receipt and verify the end date. If Netflix’s Membership page supplies provider-specific instructions, use those instructions first; labels differ by country and billing product.

- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
Verizon and other telecom packages
Verizon package customers should contact Verizon to cancel the package or Netflix subscription. Linking a package can change the payment method without deleting the Netflix account, and an earlier Apple subscription may continue charging unless it is canceled through Apple. Details are in Netflix’s Verizon guidance.
T-Mobile
T-Mobile can become Netflix’s payment method after activation. Removing the Netflix benefit stops T-Mobile as the payment method. If no valid payment method remains, Netflix may place the account on hold; if another valid payment method remains, you may still need to cancel the Netflix membership itself. Check both T-Mobile and Netflix after making the change. See T-Mobile’s Netflix support page.

Switching to a bundle without losing your account
If you are moving to a package that includes Netflix, do not automatically cancel first. When the provider supports account linking, connect your existing Netflix account to the package. Netflix says this can preserve profiles, preferences, My List, downloads, and related account information. After linking, verify that the old payment method is no longer being charged.
When does Netflix stop working?
| Account situation | Typical access after cancellation |
|---|---|
| Paid, active direct account | Usually usable through the end of the current paid billing period. |
| Account on hold | Netflix says the account closes immediately when canceled. |
| Gift-card or promotional balance | Access can continue until the remaining balance or promotional coverage is exhausted. |
| Provider package | End date and access depend on the provider’s package terms. |
Check the closing date in Payment History using Netflix’s billing-date guidance. Cancellation does not create a universal refund entitlement for unused time; the verified rule is generally continued access through the paid period.
Prevent another household member from restarting the membership
- Change the Netflix password.
- Use the option to sign out of all devices.
- Do not share the new password with anyone who should not restart the account.
- Recheck the Account page if a new charge appears.
Netflix recommends these security steps in its cancellation guidance and post-cancellation charge guidance.

If Netflix charges you after cancellation
- Revisit Account and confirm the membership status and closing date.
- Check whether the account was restarted by someone with access.
- Change the password and sign out of all devices.
- Look for a second subscription through Apple, Google Play, Roku, Amazon, or a carrier.
- Compare the charge date with the original billing period.
- Contact Netflix or the billing partner with the confirmation email, charge date, amount, and account details.
A post-cancellation charge can result from an accidental restart or a separate partner subscription. Do not assume the charge is fraud or immediately dispute it with your bank before checking those possibilities.
Canceling membership is not deleting the account
Cancellation primarily stops future membership billing. It does not automatically erase the login, profiles, recommendations, ratings, viewing activity, or other account information. Netflix says viewing activity, recommendations, ratings, account details, gameplay history, and certain game-save information may be retained for 24 months after the account closes so they can be available if you restart. That statement does not mean every data category is retained identically in every jurisdiction.
Deleting a profile, requesting a copy of your information, closing an inactive account, and requesting deletion are different actions. Netflix’s personal-information instructions explain access requests at its privacy page. For deletion or other privacy action, use Netflix’s Privacy or Help Center contact process and expect legal and country-specific retention limits; canceling alone is not an immediate erasure request.
Cannot sign in or cancel for someone else?
Use Netflix’s login-help or password-reset process, search old receipts, and identify the merchant on the payment statement. If the account owner is deceased or unavailable, contact Netflix with the account email address or phone number and full payment information. Netflix documents the deceased-member process at this Help Center page.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Pause, downgrade, or cancel?
| Option | Stops recurring charge? | Immediate streaming | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cancel | Yes, after the current paid period | Usually until that period ends | Leaving Netflix |
| Pause | Temporarily | No streaming or downloads while paused | A short break |
| Downgrade | No | Yes | Reducing cost while keeping service |
| Switch to a bundle | Direct Netflix billing should stop once linking is complete | Usually yes | Moving payment to a package |
Pause
Netflix says pausing is available only for certain plans and payment methods. A pause lasts one month and can be extended to three months total; streaming and downloads stop, while browsing and My List remain available. The option may be unavailable for the Basic plan, direct debit, gift cards, and some partner payments. Check Account for eligibility.
Downgrade
A lower-priced plan takes effect on the next billing date. A higher-priced plan generally takes effect immediately, and Netflix says plan changes can alter the billing date or create a prorated charge depending on the circumstances. See Netflix’s plan-change guidance.
