To cancel Netflix billed directly by Netflix, sign in in a web browser, open Manage your membership, select Cancel, then select Finish Cancellation. Netflix says it will email a confirmation. If you do not see a Cancel option, check the billing information in your account: you may need to cancel through the payment partner listed there.
Cancel Netflix online
Use a browser on a phone or computer and sign in to the Netflix account. The cancellation control is in account membership settings, not the usual streaming screen.

- Open Manage your membership and sign in if prompted.
- Select Cancel.
- Select Finish Cancellation.
- Keep the confirmation email Netflix sends to the email address on the account.
Signing out, deleting the Netflix app, or removing it from a TV does not cancel membership. Those actions do not stop billing. Netflix’s current cancellation instructions are at Netflix Help Center.
Check who bills you if Cancel is missing
If Netflix does not show a cancellation option, its guidance is to cancel through the payment partner. Start with the account page and identify the provider named under Membership or Membership & Billing; follow the link or instructions shown there rather than guessing which service manages the subscription.

- Review your Netflix Payment History and account billing details.
- Compare them with the transaction description on your card or bank statement.
- Look for a payment receipt from Netflix or a partner such as a mobile carrier, cable or internet provider, or an app or device company.
- Save the partner’s cancellation confirmation as proof.
Partner interfaces and refund rules vary, so the provider identified in the account is the best starting point. Do not cancel unrelated services or assume that an installed Netflix app means billing is still active.
What happens after cancellation?
Cancellation normally stops the next renewal rather than ending viewing immediately. If the account has time left in its paid billing period, Netflix says you can keep watching until the account closes at the period’s end. Check the account page or Payment History for the relevant billing or closure date. Netflix says there are no further charges unless the account is restarted.

- No Returns and Refunds on Gift Cards
- An account on hold may close immediately after cancellation.
- A gift-card or promotional balance may keep the account usable until that balance runs out.
- Canceling does not automatically mean you will receive a refund for unused time. Ask Netflix or the billing provider about a specific charge; the provider’s terms may apply. For example, Roku’s refund policy says Roku-managed subscriptions are prepaid and generally do not receive partial-term refunds.
If you are canceling before a free trial or promotion ends, check the account’s renewal date and terms; offers can differ by country and promotion.
Switching to a package that includes Netflix?
Do not cancel first if a new cable, mobile, internet, or other package is meant to cover Netflix. Netflix says you can link your existing account through the package’s activation instructions. After linking, Netflix says it stops billing the payment method on file because the package covers the cost. Using the existing account preserves preferences, downloads, My List, and other account information. See Netflix’s package and cancellation guidance.

Cancel or pause?
Cancel if you want to stop recurring membership and ensure it will not resume on its own. A pause is a temporary alternative for eligible accounts, not a permanent cancellation.
- Netflix’s pause option is for one month at a time, with a total pause of up to three months where an extension is offered.
- You can continue watching until the next billing date. During the pause, streaming and downloads are unavailable, although browsing Netflix and adding titles to My List remain available.
- The option is unavailable on the Basic plan and may not be offered for direct debit, gift cards, or some partner payments.
- Unpausing charges the account immediately and updates the billing date.

Will your profiles and viewing history disappear?
Canceling is not the same as immediately erasing the account. Netflix says it retains viewing activity, recommendations, ratings, account details, gameplay history, and game saves for 24 months after the account closes. Game saves are subject to limitations for games without cloud saves. If you restart during that period, retained information may be available again.

If other household members know the password or a device remains signed in, change the Netflix password after canceling and select Sign out of all devices. This reduces the chance that another person will restart membership using the account. Netflix recommends these steps in its cancellation guidance.

Netflix charged you after cancellation
Check the account and billing trail before disputing a charge. A charge can reflect a restarted membership, a different Netflix account, or a payment partner’s billing relationship.
- Search the account email for Netflix’s cancellation confirmation.
- Check the Netflix account page for membership status and the billing or closure date.
- Review Payment History and compare it with the statement descriptor.
- Check whether another person restarted the account, or whether a separate Netflix account or partner-billed subscription exists.
- If the restart was not authorized, cancel again, change the password, and sign out of all devices.
- Contact the billing partner if it handles payments; otherwise contact Netflix support. Have the charge date, amount, account email, and cancellation confirmation ready.

Restart Netflix later
Sign in to the existing account rather than choosing Get Started, Join to Watch, or Join Now. If the account is still usable, select Undo Cancel Request from the banner or pop-up, or choose Restart Membership on the account page. If Netflix shows a welcome-back or setup screen, follow its prompts.
Netflix says profiles, My List, game saves, and payment information can remain available when an account is successfully restarted. The billing date may stay the same or change to the restart date, depending on the flow. If Netflix cannot find the account, check for another email address, a spelling error, or a long gap since cancellation. See Netflix’s restart instructions.

The main account owner cancels the main membership. An extra member should use the controls available in their own extra-member account or ask the owner to remove the slot; canceling the owner’s plan is not the same as ending an extra-member slot. Controls can depend on the plan, country, and login setup. Someone who only uses another person’s profile cannot cancel that person’s membership.
For an account belonging to a deceased member, Netflix provides a separate process for cancellation through the account page or support: cancel an account for a deceased member.
