How to Calculate YouTube Ad Revenue per 1,000 Live Stream Views

Divide a live stream’s estimated ad revenue by its views, then multiply by 1,000. For example, $240 in estimated ad revenue across 30,000 views works out to $8 per 1,000 views: ($240 ÷ 30,000) × 1,000. This is an illustrative calculation, not a typical YouTube payout or benchmark. Use figures for the same stream, date range, and content scope.

Calculate the ad revenue rate

Use this formula to find the creator-side ad revenue per 1,000 total live-stream views:

(Estimated ad revenue ÷ live-stream views) × 1,000

For example, if YouTube Analytics reports $240 in estimated ad revenue and 30,000 views for the same live stream and reporting period, the calculation is ($240 ÷ 30,000) × 1,000 = $8 per 1,000 views. The numbers illustrate the arithmetic; they do not represent a YouTube average.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter

  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

This is a custom rate you calculate from your own data, not a separate YouTube metric with a standard live-stream payout. There is no universal dollar amount YouTube pays per 1,000 live views established by the official guidance cited here.

Find matching revenue and view figures

  1. Open YouTube Studio Analytics. Go to the Revenue reporting views and choose a date range for the stream or period you want to measure.
  2. Use estimated ad revenue. If you want an ad-only rate, do not substitute total estimated revenue, which can include other revenue sources.
  3. Filter for live content where the report allows it. YouTube says live-stream and live-replay ad revenue can be broken down in Analytics by selecting the Live filter. Use the Revenue report’s live content breakdown when available.
  4. Get the view count for the same scope and dates. Divide the ad-revenue figure by that matching view count. If a filter or report view does not provide the needed breakdown, use the closest matching live-stream view count and reporting period available; do not combine figures covering different content or dates.
  5. Multiply by 1,000. The result is your estimated ad revenue per 1,000 total views for that selection.

YouTube’s live metrics help page notes that interaction and revenue reports are unavailable when filtering strictly for Live. Report availability can therefore depend on the view and filter. Use the Revenue report and its live content breakdown when it provides the figure you need rather than assuming every Analytics view exposes the same data.

Do not confuse ad revenue with RPM or CPM

The denominator and the kind of revenue matter. YouTube’s metrics describe different things:

  • Your calculated ad revenue per 1,000 views: estimated creator ad revenue divided by total live-stream views, multiplied by 1,000.
  • RPM: creator revenue per 1,000 views. It can include ads, YouTube Premium, memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers, so it is broader than ad revenue alone.
  • CPM: advertiser cost per 1,000 ad impressions before YouTube’s revenue share. It is not the amount the creator earns per 1,000 views.
  • Playback-based CPM: advertiser cost per 1,000 video playbacks that included an ad. A playback can include more than one ad impression.

Use the custom calculation for an ad-only rate against all views. Use RPM when you want to assess broader creator revenue per view; do not label CPM or playback-based CPM as your realized creator payout.

Why views do not all earn ad revenue

A view is not the same as a monetized playback or an ad impression. YouTube defines an estimated monetized playback as a playback that included at least one ad. Some views have no ad because ads are off, the content is not advertiser-friendly, a suitable ad is unavailable, or delivery is affected by targeting, geography, recent ad exposure, or a Premium subscription. On a live stream, an ad slot may not serve at all.

That is why a stream can gain views without gaining ad revenue at the same rate. If available in your reporting view, estimated monetized playbacks can help show how much of the audience had at least one ad, but that count is not interchangeable with total views or ad impressions.

What can change the rate between streams

  • Share of views that monetize: If total views rise but ad-served playbacks do not rise proportionally, ad revenue per 1,000 total views can fall.
  • Live ad settings: YouTube supports automatic or manually managed mid-roll ads. Automatic mid-roll frequency can be set to low, medium, or high; scheduled breaks have documented intervals. These settings create ad opportunities, not guaranteed ad delivery.
  • Audience and ad market: Geography, ad targeting, available inventory, and ad formats can affect both ad delivery and advertiser-side CPM.
  • Eligibility and viewing context: Watch Page ad and YouTube Premium earnings on live videos require acceptance of YouTube’s Watch Page Monetization Module. YouTube also says an embedded player with autoplay has ads turned off for the live stream.
  • Later estimate adjustments: Estimated monthly revenue can change because of invalid traffic, Content ID claims or disputes, and some campaign types. YouTube says adjustments occur after one week and again in the middle of the following month.

Compare streams or periods fairly

Before deciding that one stream earned better, align the date range and content scope. Then compare the measures that answer the same question:

  1. Compare estimated ad revenue per 1,000 total views using the formula above.
  2. If available, compare monetized playbacks as a share of views to see whether ad-served viewing differed.
  3. Consider whether audience geography, ad delivery conditions, or live ad settings changed.
  4. Compare RPM separately if the question is total creator monetization rather than ads alone.

YouTube reported an average uplift of over 20% in in-stream ad revenue per hour among channels that turned on automatic live mid-roll ads compared with channels that did not. This was a platform comparison averaged across 207 countries, measured in January 2024. It is a historical revenue-per-hour comparison—not a per-1,000-view benchmark or a promised result for an individual channel. YouTube also states that ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.
