You can use a spare PC, OBS Studio and music files you have permission to livestream to keep a YouTube channel playing around the clock. The PC, its media files and your internet connection must remain available while OBS is streaming; power or connectivity interruptions can break the broadcast. This guide covers eligibility, looping local files, YouTube’s encoder and network settings, testing, rights and the limits of a 24/7 replay.
Before you set up the stream
Check that your channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. You must be at least 16 to livestream. Check eligibility and enable livestreaming before you plan a launch; YouTube notes that first-time activation can take time. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Use music cleared for livestreaming
Use files for which you have the necessary rights to broadcast on YouTube Live. Being able to listen to a track on a music service, or having permission to use it in a different context, does not establish livestream rights. If a rights holder has licensed music for your channel but uses Content ID, ask them to allowlist your channel: YouTube warns that a live stream can still be interrupted by Content ID otherwise. Prepare the music and looping source in OBS
For one file

Install OBS Studio on the spare PC and place the music or audio/video file you intend to play somewhere the PC can access while it is running.

In OBS, create or select a scene. In the Sources panel, select + and add Media Source.

Choose the local file in the source properties and enable Loop. Confirm that the audio plays in OBS before connecting to YouTube.
For a playlist of files

Install VLC as well as OBS. OBS’s VLC Video source depends on VLC being installed.

In the scene’s Sources panel, select + and add VLC Video. Add the files to its playlist and enable Loop Playlist.

Check that the playlist advances and returns to the beginning. Keep the source files in place; moving or deleting them while the stream is live can interrupt playback.
OBS documents the local-file and playlist controls in its Media Sources guide. These controls loop your source on the PC; they do not make the stream independent of that computer.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter the Live Control Room. Create or select a stream and obtain its stream key.

In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and connect your account or enter the stream key according to the connection method shown. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your stream. Do not publish it or include it in a screen recording.

Use YouTube’s RTMPS ingest where available. Before starting, check that OBS is sending the intended scene and that the local media source is playing.

Choose encoder settings your connection can sustain
Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance rather than copying a bitrate from a different stream. The appropriate video bitrate depends on the resolution and frame rate you choose and on the upload capacity you can reliably sustain. A higher setting is not automatically better if your connection cannot maintain it.

These are YouTube’s platform settings recommendations, not minimum PC specifications. Its encoder settings and live encoder guidance includes the current details and recommends testing your upload bitrate.

Leave bandwidth headroom. YouTube’s network guidance recommends 20% spare capacity; treat that as its recommendation, not a guarantee that a stream will survive every interruption. If the stream is unstable, lower the bitrate or choose a less demanding resolution or frame rate.

Start a test stream and check the Live Control Room preview for video, audio and connection warnings. Then verify playback from the channel’s watch page and monitor it. YouTube’s network guidance warns: “A disruption on your connectivity could mean a broken stream.”

For a local-PC setup to continue broadcasting, leave the PC powered on, OBS running, the media available and the network equipment connected. A UPS for the PC and router is an optional way to bridge some brief power interruptions; choose and test backup capacity for your own equipment and conditions. It does not protect against an internet outage.
There is no single India-wide internet-speed recommendation or UPS runtime established here. Your actual requirements depend on the stream settings, upload connection, equipment load and local power conditions.

Plan separately for a 24/7 replay
A live broadcast and its replay are not the same thing. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a complete archive matters, plan shorter sessions and make a local recording with enough storage, then check that the recording is actually being saved. YouTube also recommends a local archive as a backup. See its archive guidance and live-stream testing and monitoring guidance.
Troubleshoot common failures
