You can run a continuous Bollywood-oldies radio-style stream on YouTube by sending a prepared audio-and-visual programme through a software or hardware encoder. The first step is not choosing an encoder: it is confirming that you have the rights to livestream each recording and composition on YouTube in every territory where the stream will be available. Owning a song or being able to play it privately does not by itself grant public livestream rights.
Can you run a YouTube radio station with Bollywood songs?
Technically, yes: YouTube Live accepts an encoded programme feed, which can be a prepared music playlist with a visual component. But a continuous stream is only viable if the precise recordings and compositions are cleared for the intended use. Bollywood tracks can involve separate rights in a sound recording and in the underlying composition, and permissions may vary by territory, duration, and whether you keep an archive or replay.
YouTube’s livestream terms make the provider responsible for necessary rights. They state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” YouTube Livestream terms and conditions.
Do I need permission to stream Bollywood oldies?
Yes, unless you can establish that the material is already available to you under rights that cover this use. Before adding a track, identify the specific recording and composition, then obtain permission that expressly covers livestreaming on YouTube, the relevant territories, and the planned duration. If you intend to archive or replay the programme, check that those uses are covered too. Do not assume that a personal music purchase, a local copy, or a licence for a different platform covers a public YouTube broadcast.

- Keep written permission and licence terms for every track or catalogue you use.
- Ask the rights holder whether your channel needs to be allowlisted through Content ID, and retain confirmation if it does.
- Check territorial limits and dates. A licence for one country or period may not cover a worldwide or indefinite stream.
- Do not treat an absence of a claim during a test or live session as proof that the music is cleared.
YouTube’s published guidance does not identify the owner or licensing route for any particular Bollywood song. Rights clearance is therefore a recording-by-recording and territory-specific task, not a single universal procedure.
How do I set up the continuous YouTube broadcast?
- Check channel eligibility. Verify the channel and confirm it has had no livestream restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s general guidance sets the minimum age for livestreaming at 16. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance for current channel requirements.
- Prepare a continuous programme. Assemble the cleared tracks in the order you want them played and provide a visual feed, such as a station identity screen or track information. Use only visuals you have the right to show. The encoder needs to send audio and video; this is a prepared programme, not a camera broadcast.
- Create the YouTube Live session. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that session.
- Configure an encoder. Enter the YouTube stream URL and key into a software encoder or a professional-grade hardware encoder. YouTube documents software encoders and recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events; dedicated hardware is optional for a basic radio-style stream. Consult YouTube’s encoder setup guidance for the current workflow.
- Check the preview before going live. Confirm that both sound and visuals reach YouTube, the programme is playing as intended, and the stream is connected before you start the broadcast.
- Monitor the live feed. Watch for matching-content notices, interruptions, and audio or video failures. Keep your rights records and any Content ID allowlisting confirmation accessible in case a rights issue arises.
The official workflow establishes the need for a stream URL and key, but it does not establish a best encoder model or a particular automation package for a 24/7 station. Choose an encoder you can configure and monitor, and plan how you will respond if it or the connection fails.

Will YouTube block my old-songs livestream?
It may interrupt or terminate a stream when its systems detect third-party content. YouTube says livestreams are scanned for third-party material; a match can trigger a placeholder image or a temporary interruption or termination. Even if you have a licence, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the stream to proceed without interruption. If you archive the broadcast, Content ID claims on the archive are made after the live stream ends. A stream that finishes without an immediate warning is not a guarantee that its music is cleared or that its archive will remain available.

How do I keep the station running overnight and preserve an archive?
YouTube can automatically archive a stream that is less than 12 hours long. A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all, so an uninterrupted, indefinitely long broadcast is not a safe archive plan. If a YouTube replay matters, schedule successive sessions that end before the 12-hour threshold, then start the next session deliberately. YouTube does not promise that these handoffs will be uninterrupted. Keep a local recording if archive continuity is important. See YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.
A continuous station and an uninterrupted archive are different goals: splitting the broadcast can make the archive more likely to be captured, but it requires a planned handoff and does not guarantee a seamless transition.

Can a continuous Bollywood livestream earn money?
YouTube lists ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and channel memberships as possible live revenue features, subject to channel eligibility and applicable policies. Ads are not guaranteed to fill every slot.
