To send the audio playing from a RadioBOSS automation playlist to YouTube Live, configure a RadioBOSS custom RTMP encoder with the stream URL and key from YouTube Live Control Room, then add that encoder to RadioBOSS’s broadcast settings. YouTube’s RTMPS option encrypts the connection; use the exact RTMPS URL YouTube provides when selecting it.
Before you start
- A working RadioBOSS installation and an audio playlist. RadioBOSS can encode the audio mix—the audio currently playing from the playlist—on the fly. RadioBOSS RTMP streaming instructions and its general broadcasting guide describe this workflow.
- A YouTube live broadcast with its server URL and stream key available in Live Control Room. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it.
- An image or video file to use as background media in the RadioBOSS RTMP encoder. This is separate from the playlist audio being broadcast.
Menu labels can vary by installed version. The RadioBOSS manual index identifies its PDF as covering version 7.2; consult the installed version’s help if a label differs. The online RTMP guide is the step-by-step reference for this setup: RTMP streaming.
Set up the YouTube destination in RadioBOSS
- Get the YouTube connection details. In YouTube Live Control Room, open the relevant broadcast’s stream settings and copy its stream URL and stream key. If you choose RTMPS, reveal and copy YouTube’s RTMPS URL rather than substituting an ordinary RTMP address. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP carried over TLS/SSL; see Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.
- Open RadioBOSS’s custom encoders. Go to Settings → Options → Broadcast, then select Custom Encoders.
- Create the RTMP encoder. Add an encoder, give it a recognizable name, and select the RTMP option. Enter the destination URL and stream key copied from YouTube, following the field formatting shown by your RadioBOSS version.
- Choose the background media. In the custom encoder settings, select an image or video file for the RTMP background. RadioBOSS uses the playlist’s audio mix as the broadcast source by default; the selected background media is not a replacement for that audio source.
- Install the RTMP plugin if prompted. The RadioBOSS manual’s documented flow includes an Install plugin control when the plugin is missing. Complete that step if it appears, then return to the encoder setup.
- Add the encoder to the broadcast configuration. Return to the Broadcast area and add a streaming encoder. Enter
[rtmp]in the Server field, then select the custom encoder you created by its name. - Start the broadcast and check its status. Start broadcasting in RadioBOSS and inspect its report or log for the encoder’s connection status. The general RadioBOSS broadcast guide gives “Connected to server! (output N)” as a successful connection message for the server workflow it describes; wording for a YouTube custom RTMP encoder can depend on the setup and software version.
Choose RTMP or RTMPS correctly
Use the URL supplied for the YouTube broadcast you are configuring. RTMPS encrypts the RTMP connection using TLS/SSL. Do not assume that an RTMP URL can be changed to RTMPS merely by editing its text: copy the RTMPS URL from Live Control Room and follow the encoder’s current instructions for entering it.
If you see an SSL error even though the address appears correct, YouTube’s RTMPS guidance lists port 443 as a troubleshooting option. Follow the URL and connection details shown in Live Control Room, and consult RadioBOSS’s current documentation for how its encoder expects the address and port to be formatted. - Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check these settings if YouTube does not connect
- Confirm the destination details. Check that the URL and key belong to the intended broadcast and were copied into the corresponding encoder fields. If using RTMPS, verify you copied the RTMPS URL provided by YouTube.
- Check the server field and encoder selection. For the documented RadioBOSS procedure, the broadcast encoder’s Server field is
[rtmp], and the custom encoder must be selected by the name you gave it. - Check plugin availability. If RadioBOSS presents an Install plugin control for RTMP, install the plugin before retrying.
- Check network access and address formatting. RadioBOSS’s general broadcasting documentation identifies an incorrect address or port, firewall or antivirus blocking, and lack of network connectivity as possible causes of connection errors. These are general checks, not a confirmed diagnosis for every YouTube RTMP failure. RadioBOSS broadcasting guide
- Read the RadioBOSS report or log. Use the encoder’s reported status to distinguish a connection failure from a playlist or audio-source issue. The precise message can vary by version and configuration.
Direct YouTube streaming versus RadioBOSS Cloud
The procedure above sends the RadioBOSS custom RTMP encoder to YouTube. RadioBOSS Cloud’s live-broadcast guide instead describes connecting RadioBOSS to RadioBOSS Cloud through Icecast, where the service can transition between live and AutoDJ broadcasts. That is a different destination and workflow, not a substitute for configuring YouTube as the RTMP destination. See RadioBOSS Cloud’s live broadcast guide. Neither guide establishes that one route is universally better; choose based on whether you want RadioBOSS to connect directly to YouTube or to RadioBOSS Cloud.
