You can automatically announce a Twitch stream on X (formerly Twitter) with an IFTTT Applet, using Twitch’s New stream started by you trigger and X’s Post a tweet action. For YouTube, Zapier documents a New Live Stream trigger, but confirm that an X posting action is available in your account before relying on it. These tools check for events on a schedule, so an announcement may arrive after the stream starts rather than instantly.
How to automatically post on X when your Twitch stream starts
IFTTT offers the most direct documented Twitch-to-X setup: connect both accounts, select Twitch’s stream-start trigger, and pair it with an X post action. X calls posts “posts” in its own documentation, although IFTTT’s action label is Post a tweet.
- Open the integration. Go to IFTTT’s Twitch-to-X integration page and choose a ready-made Applet or create a custom one.
- Connect both accounts. Authorize the Twitch account that will start the broadcast and the X account that should publish the announcement. Review the permissions shown during authorization.
- Choose the trigger. Select Twitch’s New stream started by you trigger. IFTTT lists ingredients such as channel name, stream title, game, channel URL, preview image, and start time.
- Choose the action and write the post. Select Post a tweet or, if offered in your setup, Post a tweet with image. For example: “I’m live: [stream title] — watch here: [channel URL].” Replace the bracketed text with the information supplied by the trigger.
- Review and enable the Applet. Check its trigger and action settings, then turn it on. If a later stream does not produce a post, check IFTTT’s activity or execution history for the Applet.
Expect a delay, not an instant post
IFTTT describes the Twitch trigger as polling. Its integration documentation, accessed October 3, 2026, says it checks every five minutes for Pro and Pro+ users and every hour for Free users. Those are stated check intervals, not measured delivery times or a guarantee that a post will appear within exactly that period; processing and posting can add delay. Check the plan details and trigger availability shown in your own account, since service terms can change.
Keep the announcement eligible to post
IFTTT’s X action documentation warns: “Affiliate URLs are not supported in Tweet text and will result in an Action error.” Leave affiliate URLs out of a post using this action. A regular channel link is different from an affiliate URL, but confirm the action accepts your finished text before depending on it.

How to announce a YouTube livestream on X
Zapier documents a YouTube New Live Stream trigger that fires when a stream is created or becomes active for a specified channel. Its YouTube integration page identifies a channel ID as a requirement and states that the Free plan polls every 15 minutes. That interval is Zapier’s published polling frequency, not a promise of when a post will appear.
- Create a workflow in Zapier. Choose YouTube as the trigger app and select New Live Stream.
- Authorize YouTube and identify the channel. Connect the account that owns or manages the channel, complete the authorization, and provide the required channel ID as prompted.
- Check for an X posting action. Add an X action only if it is available in your connected Zapier account and supports the post you intend to publish. The documented YouTube trigger does not establish that every account has this destination action.
- Map the announcement details. Use available stream information, such as its title or URL, to compose a concise post. Review the workflow’s fields and authorization before enabling it.
- Check a low-stakes run before relying on it. Use a scheduled broadcast or another test procedure supported by the services, then inspect the workflow’s run history and X account. Do not assume the announcement will be instantaneous.
Zapier also documents a Twitch trigger called New Live Stream by Streamer. Its Twitch integration page says the Free plan checks every 15 minutes. It can suit a Twitch workflow that needs other configurable steps, but the available destination actions and current plan details should be checked in your own account.

Which route fits your broadcast?
| Route | Documented trigger and polling | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| IFTTT with Twitch and X | Twitch’s “New stream started by you” trigger and an X post action; IFTTT states five-minute checks on Pro and Pro+ and hourly checks on Free. | A direct Twitch announcement using a ready-made Applet or a simple custom workflow. |
| Zapier with Twitch | “New Live Stream by Streamer”; Zapier states 15-minute checks on Free. | A Twitch trigger in a broader configurable workflow, if the needed X action is available. |
| Zapier with YouTube | “New Live Stream” when a stream is created or becomes active; Zapier states 15-minute checks on Free. | A YouTube live-stream trigger, after confirming the X action in your account. |
| X’s own live video | X says a broadcast hosted on X is automatically posted when the user goes live; no third-party polling interval is stated. | A live video hosted on X itself, rather than an announcement for a separate Twitch or YouTube stream. |
Before choosing a workflow, check four practical points: whether it supports your streaming platform, how often its trigger polls, whether your account offers the destination action, and what account permissions or post fields it requires. A supported image or link option can vary by action and account, so verify it in the workflow builder rather than assuming it will be available.
Why X’s native live post does not announce a Twitch or YouTube stream
X Help says that a live video broadcast on X is automatically posted when the user goes live. That behavior applies to an X-hosted broadcast. If you stream on Twitch or YouTube and want to direct viewers to that external channel, use a cross-service workflow such as the ones above; X’s native live-video post does not, by itself, detect that external stream.
