YouTube Studio does not provide a documented switch for changing playlist membership automatically every day. For a daily unattended change, use a script that calls the YouTube Data API with OAuth authorization, then run that script on a separate schedule. If you only need to update the playlist occasionally, Studio’s manual playlist controls are simpler.
First decide what “change” means
A daily update can mean several different things: adding today’s satsang video, removing an older entry, or moving a video to a chosen position. YouTube provides separate API operations for inserting, deleting, and updating playlist items; there is no single daily-playlist-change operation. See the insert, delete, and update methods.
Decide whether older satsangs should remain in the playlist, whether the newest video should appear first or last, and whether the job should change an existing entry or only add a new one. Those decisions become the script’s rules.
Manual edits or unattended automation?

The scheduler is an implementation choice, not a built-in YouTube playlist feature. The API provides the write operations; you arrange when they run.

Set up a daily playlist workflow
- Choose the rule. Specify the target playlist, the video to add or change, what happens to yesterday’s item, and the intended position. Keep one stable playlist if viewers need a consistent shareable destination; create a new playlist each day only if that is the intended result.
- Set up API access and OAuth. Create an application for the YouTube Data API and authorize it for the channel account that can edit the playlist. API requests use an API key or OAuth token, but modifying data requires OAuth. Keep credentials private, grant only the access needed, and provide a way to recover if authorization is revoked or expires. See Google’s YouTube Data API authentication guide.
- Read the playlist before changing it. List its current playlist items to determine what is already present and avoid accidental duplicates. For removal or repositioning, use the playlist-item ID for that particular entry—not merely the video ID. The item ID represents the video’s placement in the playlist. See the playlistItems resource and operations.
- Call the method that matches the action. Use playlistItems.insert to add an item, playlistItems.delete to remove an item, or playlistItems.update to change an existing item, including its position.
- Make ordering explicit. If the script sets a video’s position, the playlist’s ordering option must be Manual. Confirm the intended position after the update rather than assuming the playlist will reorder itself.
- Schedule the script and monitor it. Configure an external scheduler for the desired local time. Record whether each run succeeded, and arrange an alert or human fallback for failures. Test the first run and verify the playlist in YouTube before relying on the job unattended.
Quota, errors, and safeguards
Google’s current API method references, accessed October 3, 2026, list a cost of 50 quota units for each playlist-item insert, delete, or update call. Google’s Getting Started guide lists a default allocation of 10,000 units per day for most other endpoints; that is a changeable default, not a guaranteed limit for every project. Check your project’s actual quota and current documentation before deployment.
- Duplicate additions: list the playlist first and check whether the intended video is already present before inserting it.
- Missing or inaccessible items: verify the video and playlist IDs, that the authorized account can access the playlist, and that the item still exists.
- Removal or update fails: retrieve the playlist items again and use the current playlist-item ID for the entry you intend to change.
- Position does not change: confirm the playlist is set to Manual ordering and that the update targets the correct item.
- Authorization errors: check whether the OAuth grant remains valid and whether the account still has permission to edit the playlist; do not treat a scheduled run as proof that credentials are working.
- Quota errors or repeated retries: inspect the project’s quota and job logs. Avoid retry loops that repeatedly submit writes without checking whether a previous request succeeded.
- Playlist limit errors: check the API response and current playlist contents, then decide whether the rule should retain fewer older entries or stop and notify a person.
