Short answer: Cesbo Astra’s documentation does not describe a way to add uploaded prerecorded videos to a timed schedule. It documents channel inputs and outputs, plus HTTP Play playlists of enabled channels—not a video playout timetable. Because “Astra” can refer to different products, first confirm that you mean Cesbo Astra and identify your release before following product-specific instructions.
What “Astra Streaming schedule” means here
This guide interprets Astra as Cesbo Astra, the Linux-server streaming and broadcast product. Other products also use the name Astra, and their features may differ. Cesbo describes a stream as an individual channel or media flow that receives content from sources, processes it, and delivers it to clients. Its documented configuration is based on stream inputs and outputs, not a timetable for uploaded videos.
That distinction matters: a source feed, a channel playlist, and a scheduled sequence of prerecorded files are different things. Cesbo’s documentation does not establish a current workflow for uploading several videos, arranging them by time, and scheduling their playout.
What Cesbo Astra documents—and what it does not
Inputs and outputs are stream configuration
Astra’s stream configuration documentation lists source types such as HLS, HTTP MPEG-TS, UDP/RTP, SRT, RTSP, and broadcast reception. These are ways to receive stream content. HTTP Play can expose enabled channels over HLS or HTTP MPEG-TS.

An M3U8 or XSPF playlist is not a video timetable
HTTP Play can generate M3U8 or XSPF playlists that organize access to enabled channels. The documentation does not describe those playlists as schedules of uploaded video files, or as instructions for starting different files at specified times.
HLS segmentation does not create scheduled playout
The Astra HLS guide concerns segmentation of continuous streams. It also says transcoding and caching require additional software. HLS output or segmentation should not be mistaken for a feature that schedules a sequence of prerecorded videos.

Check your Astra version and source material first
- Confirm the vendor. Check that the product is Cesbo Astra rather than another application named Astra.
- Record the release. Note the exact Astra version shown in your installation or its administration interface. A feature documented for an older release is not proof that it is supported or configured the same way in a current release.
- Identify the files. Record the container and format—for example, whether the material is MPEG-TS or another video format. The legacy file-input note below is specifically about MPEG-TS.
- Define the desired behavior. Distinguish playing one file repeatedly from scheduling multiple files in sequence, setting dates and times, mixing live sources with files, or inserting breaks. The current Astra documentation does not establish a scheduled multi-file workflow for these needs.
With the vendor, release, and file format confirmed, consult documentation for that exact installation or ask the administrator responsible for it. Do not apply settings from another Astra product or assume that a legacy example is a current configuration recipe.
What the legacy Astra file-input example establishes
Cesbo’s Astra 4.4.182 documentation includes an MPEG-TS file input using a file://path address and a loop option. This is a limited, version-specific reference. It does not establish that the method is supported in current releases, and looping one MPEG-TS file is not the same as creating a timed schedule of multiple videos. Treat it as a lead to verify against the exact legacy installation, not as current step-by-step guidance.

If you need scheduled prerecorded playout
Castr TV Playout is a separately documented option; its workflow is not a Cesbo Astra feature. Castr’s TV Playout article, dated July 13, 2026, describes creating a playout, adding uploaded files or Live-to-VOD content to a timetable, choosing Schedule or Loop, setting a date and destination, and activating it with Set Schedule.
Castr TV Playout workflow
- Open TV Playout and create a playout.
- Choose Schedule or Loop, then set the frame rate and resolution.
- Upload content through Files or select Live-to-VOD content.
- Add the VOD or livestream elements to the timetable.
- Choose the date and destination, then select Set Schedule to activate the playout.
Castr’s article says timetable items cannot have gaps. If a gap is intentional, add a Break element; the article specifies a minimum duration of two minutes. Its plan table also lists plan-dependent limits for file count, file size, per-file duration, loop availability, and loop length. These limits can change, so check Castr’s current plan details before choosing a plan or building a schedule.

A different Castr feature: Pre-Recorded Stream
Castr also documents a separate Pre-Recorded Stream workflow in an article dated July 8, 2026: create a stream, upload or select saved recordings, reorder the playlist, choose Loop or Date & Time scheduling, connect a destination, and start the stream. That article says this feature supports MP4 and that file-count and size limits depend on subscription. It is not the TV Playout workflow and neither Castr feature establishes functionality in Cesbo Astra.

- Schedule or loop? Decide whether content should run once in a defined sequence, repeat continuously, or start at specified dates and times.
- What media can it accept? Check supported formats, upload limits, and per-file duration for the exact product and plan.
- Will you mix content types? Establish whether the workflow must combine recorded files, live sources, or deliberate breaks.
- Where must it play? Confirm the destination and whether features such as EPG support are required. Do not assume that a channel playlist or output format provides a scheduled destination.
- Which restrictions apply? Verify plan-specific resolution, frame rate, file count, loop length, and other limits directly with the provider. Do not transfer Castr limits to Astra.
