How to Add or Claim a Podcast on Spotify (2026 Guide)

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use Spotify for Creators at creators.spotify.com. If Spotify hosts your show, create it there and publish the first episode. If another company hosts it, choose Add a new show → Find an existing show → Somewhere else, then submit the RSS feed. Spotify will either create a new listing or let you claim an existing one. Claiming gives you creator-management access; it does not move your hosting to Spotify.

Add, claim, host and distribute: what each term means

Term What it means
Add or submit You provide an RSS feed for a show that is not yet listed on Spotify. Spotify uses the feed to create the listing.
Claim The show already has a Spotify listing. You prove control of the feed and gain access to it in Spotify for Creators.
Host A service stores your audio or video files and publishes the RSS feed. Spotify for Creators can be that host, but it does not have to be.
Distribute Podcast apps read your RSS feed. A third-party host can distribute the same feed to Spotify and other directories.

A podcast can appear on Spotify without being claimed. Claiming is for creator-side management, not a legal copyright transfer. Spotify says a show can be claimed only once in Spotify for Creators.

Choose the right Spotify path

  • Hosted by Spotify for Creators: choose Create a new show, publish the first episode, and Spotify publishes the show to Spotify automatically.
  • Hosted elsewhere and already listed: choose Find an existing show → Somewhere else and claim it.
  • Hosted elsewhere and not listed: use the same workflow and submit the RSS feed as a new show.
  • Already claimed by someone else: contact the current administrator; do not submit a duplicate listing.

The menu labels below reflect Spotify’s documented interface on August 18, 2026. Spotify can change navigation without changing the underlying process.

What you need before you start

  • A free Spotify account and access to Spotify for Creators.
  • The show’s public RSS feed URL, or its Spotify show URL.
  • Access to the email address published inside that RSS feed.
  • Administrative access to your podcast host if the feed email or metadata needs correcting.
  • For a show hosted by Spotify, at least one published episode; Spotify says the RSS settings may not appear before publication.

An RSS feed normally contains the title, description, artwork, episode information and links to the audio files. Treat the feed email as public information: Spotify warns that anyone with the feed URL can see it.

How to add or claim a podcast hosted somewhere else

  1. Open Spotify for Creators and sign in, or create a Spotify account.
  2. Open your avatar or account menu and select Add a new show.
  3. Choose Find an existing show, then Somewhere else.
  4. Enter the complete RSS feed URL. You can also enter the Spotify show URL, but the feed is the safer way to identify a program with a common name.
  5. Check the artwork, title and episodes Spotify finds. Confirm that the result is your show.
  6. Wait for the email sent to the address contained in the RSS feed.
  7. Enter Spotify’s 8-digit verification code.
  8. Finish setup and open the show in Spotify for Creators.

If Spotify finds an existing listing, the process is a claim. If no listing exists, the submitted feed becomes a new Spotify listing. The same account can manage multiple shows; see Spotify’s multiple-show guidance.

How to create a new podcast with Spotify for Creators

  1. Sign in to Spotify for Creators.
  2. Select Add a new show.
  3. Choose Create a new show.
  4. Upload or create an episode and publish it.

Spotify says a show hosted there is automatically published to Spotify after the first episode goes live. That does not submit it automatically to Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music or every other directory. To distribute elsewhere, enable the RSS feed and submit that feed to each service.

Where to find the RSS feed

Spotify-hosted show

  1. Open Spotify for Creators and select the show.
  2. Go to Settings → Availability.
  3. Scroll to RSS Distribution and copy the feed URL.

Spotify says RSS Distribution may be unavailable until the first episode has been published. Enabling it exposes the feed email publicly.

Show hosted by another provider

Open your host’s distribution or settings area and look for RSS feed, Podcast feed, Public feed, Distribution feed, Spotify feed or Destinations. Some hosts expose several feeds after a migration or directory integration. Use the feed tied to the Spotify listing and ask the host’s support team if you cannot identify the canonical distribution feed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What verification actually checks

The code goes to the email address in the RSS XML, not necessarily the email used for your Spotify login. If that address is old, inaccessible or missing, change it through your hosting provider, refresh or republish the feed if required, then retry. Check the live feed itself rather than relying only on the host dashboard.

Because the email is publicly exposed, use an address you can monitor without publishing a personal mailbox you do not want indexed. Verification demonstrates control of the feed; it is not conclusive legal proof that you own every copyright interest in the podcast.

What claiming lets you manage

Depending on your country, show type, account status and Spotify’s current rollout, a claimed show may expose:

  • Listener comments and analytics.
  • Trailers and previews.
  • Polls, transcripts and chapters.
  • Video tools and other Spotify for Creators publishing controls.
  • Team access, with the administrator able to invite other members.

Feature access is not uniform. Claiming an audio RSS show does not convert its existing audio episodes into video episodes. Video may require uploading or replacing media in Spotify for Creators, and its distribution is not identical to ordinary audio RSS distribution.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Troubleshooting by symptom

Spotify cannot find the show

  • Paste the complete RSS URL instead of searching only by title.
  • Confirm the feed is public, belongs to the correct show and contains at least one valid published episode.
  • Ask your host whether a separate Spotify-specific feed exists.
  • Check for an older title, artwork or feed URL after a migration.
  • Allow time for a newly created or changed feed to process.

Do not immediately create another listing. Duplicates can split listeners, analytics, reviews and subscriptions.

The verification email never arrives

  1. Check spam, quarantine and filtered folders.
  2. Inspect the email address in the live RSS feed.
  3. Correct it at the host, refresh the feed and retry with the correct URL.
  4. If Spotify says the show is already claimed, contact the existing administrator.
  5. Contact Spotify support when you cannot recover the old account or administrator.

Spotify does not document a universal delivery deadline, so do not assume that waiting alone will resolve an incorrect feed email.

The result is the wrong podcast

Stop before verifying. Use the RSS feed or exact Spotify show URL, and compare the title, artwork and episode list. A generic show name can match multiple programs.

The show is already claimed

Spotify’s documented route is through the existing administrator, who can follow the access process or invite team members. This commonly affects former employees, agencies, co-hosts, acquired programs and production companies that retained the original account.

What changes when you move to a new host?

For a claimed show hosted outside Spotify, update the feed in Spotify for Creators:

  1. Open the podcast and go to Settings.
  2. Find the current RSS feed and hosting partner.
  3. Select Update.
  4. Enter the new RSS feed URL.
  5. Confirm the new hosting provider and select Submit.

Use Spotify’s current instructions at Updating an RSS feed or hosting provider. This dashboard change does not replace a proper migration: keep the old feed active, use the former host’s redirect where supported, preserve episode URLs and metadata, and check every directory after the move. Spotify’s setting is not a guarantee that all cached listings update at once. This update path applies to shows hosted elsewhere, not Spotify-hosted shows in the same way.

Should you move hosting to Spotify?

Choice Good fit Main benefits Trade-offs
Keep your host and claim Most established shows No media migration; existing distribution remains; Spotify analytics and tools become available. Feed email, metadata and some Spotify-specific setup remain dependent on the third-party host.
Move to Spotify for Creators New creators wanting an integrated Spotify workflow Spotify-hosted shows publish to Spotify automatically; Spotify promotes unlimited hosting and integrated creator features. You must enable and submit RSS separately elsewhere; migration and public RSS-email concerns remain.
Use an independent host Publishers prioritizing portability or specialized analytics One feed can serve multiple directories, with hosting controls independent of Spotify. You manage feed selection, verification and Spotify-specific configuration yourself.

Spotify for Creators promotes hosting, analytics, video and monetization at its podcast features page. Monetization programs—including advertising revenue sharing, subscriptions and selected membership integrations—are subject to geography, audience, content, policy and account eligibility; see Spotify’s monetization information. Do not migrate solely to claim a listing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Video, subscriptions and ownership caveats

Spotify for Creators supports audio, video and mixed-format shows hosted there. A claimed third-party audio show can gain access to Spotify video tools where eligible, but adding video does not mean every existing episode is transformed or that video will propagate identically through every podcast app.

Claiming also does not settle copyright or business ownership. For an agency relationship or acquisition, document control of the hosting account, RSS-feed email, Spotify administrator account, directory listings and monetization accounts. Ideally, the client or publisher controls the primary account and invites the agency.

Final pre-publish checklist

  • Correct RSS feed or exact Spotify show URL selected.
  • Title, artwork and episodes match the intended show.
  • Accessible email address is visible in the live feed.
  • 8-digit verification completed.
  • Show opens in the correct Spotify for Creators account.
  • No duplicate listing was created.
  • Hosting and feed details are recorded for future migration.
  • Other directories were submitted separately if the show is Spotify-hosted.
