How to Add Episode Titles and Artwork to an Always-On YouTube Podcast Stream

Use separate YouTube podcast videos or RSS for episode-level titles and artwork. A continuous live broadcast is one video; its title can be edited, but documented tools do not rotate episode metadata automatically.

You can give podcast episodes distinct titles and artwork on YouTube by publishing them as separate videos in a podcast playlist or by connecting an RSS feed. A single uninterrupted live broadcast is different: it is one video with one set of broadcast metadata. You can edit its title, but YouTube’s documented tools do not describe automatic episode-by-episode title and artwork changes inside that one live video.

Choose between episode videos and one continuous live broadcast

What you need Documented YouTube route What viewers get
Separate, browsable podcast episodes Create a podcast in YouTube Studio, designate a playlist of full episodes as a podcast, or connect an RSS feed. Each episode is represented by its own video. The podcast has square show artwork; RSS can create episode videos from feed entries.
One continuous live watch page Create or manage an encoder stream in Live Control Room and edit the broadcast metadata there, or update title and description through the Live Streaming API. One live broadcast video with broadcast-level metadata.
Recurring live events with stable encoder settings Reuse stream settings or use one stream resource with separate broadcast resources. Separate broadcast events can have their own metadata while sharing a stream resource; only one event is live at a time.

Decide whether viewers need separate episode pages, whether one live URL must remain uninterrupted, and whether the title source should be YouTube Studio or an RSS feed. Also distinguish podcast show artwork from the image associated with an individual live video.

Add episode titles and show artwork in YouTube Studio

  1. Open YouTube Studio and go to Content → Podcasts.
  2. Create a podcast, or open playlist options to enable podcast features for a playlist containing full podcast episodes.
  3. Enter the podcast title and description, then add square podcast artwork. YouTube Help recommends a 1280 Ă— 1280 pixel square thumbnail.
  4. Add existing or new episode videos to the podcast playlist and arrange their order.
  5. To revise show details, return to the podcast’s Details page to edit its title, description, square thumbnail, visibility, or video order.

YouTube treats each podcast episode as a video, so an MP3 by itself cannot become a YouTube podcast. YouTube advises using podcast features for playlists of full episodes, not for clips or season playlists. See YouTube’s podcast setup guidance.

Use an RSS feed to create episode videos

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Content → Podcasts and select the podcast’s Details page.
  2. Connect the podcast’s RSS feed. RSS ingestion is available only in selected countries or regions.
  3. Choose the feed episodes to upload. YouTube creates a video for each selected episode, using the podcast’s show art as a static image; new episodes added to the connected feed can upload automatically.

RSS synchronization has important limits. YouTube does not automatically update podcast show details when they change in the feed. Episode details do update from RSS, but if you edit an episode’s details in Studio, YouTube blocks later RSS edits to those details. To replace the audio for an RSS-ingested episode, upload that episode again through the feed; YouTube creates a new video and makes the earlier one private. YouTube’s RSS delivery guidance explains the workflow and episode-detail behavior.

YouTube sorts RSS-uploaded videos by the feed release date when available, but says it does not verify that date. Different YouTube surfaces may show the feed release date or the YouTube publish date.

Change the title of a continuous live broadcast

Edit it in Live Control Room

For an encoder stream, open YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go live, and use Live Control Room. YouTube says stream settings can be edited when a stream is created, scheduled, or selected for editing. You can also reuse a previous stream’s settings and change metadata for the new stream. Follow YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.

Automate title and description updates with the API

The authorized YouTube Live Streaming API operation liveBroadcasts.update can set snippet.title and snippet.description. It requires YouTube OAuth authorization. Follow the current update method reference carefully: its documentation warns that omitted existing properties may be deleted, so check the required resource fields and writable properties before sending an update.

A liveBroadcast represents exactly one YouTube video. YouTube documents using one stream resource with multiple broadcast resources for recurring events, with only one event live at a time. That supports separate events with separate metadata; it does not establish a built-in scheduler that rotates episode metadata inside one never-ending broadcast. See the broadcast resource and broadcast-stream binding guide.

What happens to live-video artwork?

Studio explicitly provides square show artwork for podcasts. The documented liveBroadcasts.update writable properties include title and description, but not a thumbnail property. The documentation cited here therefore does not establish a supported way to automatically rotate artwork for successive episodes within a single live video. Keep podcast show art and live-broadcast imagery as separate requirements rather than assuming one workflow updates the other.

Keep the live stream running without a computer at home

If you want a continuous YouTube stream of prerecorded podcast episodes rather than separate episode pages, the DIY route is to configure a live encoder or other streaming setup and manage its broadcast metadata in YouTube Studio or through the authorized API. For an always-on stream that should not depend on a computer staying powered at home, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos or playlists from the cloud: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live.
