To label sections of a continuous yoga stream, add manual chapters to its replay after YouTube has archived it. In YouTube Studio, open Content, select the Live tab, open the replay’s details, and put timestamp-and-title lines in the description. YouTube documents chapters for videos; applying that method to an archived live stream follows its guidance that a replay is a video on your channel.
First, make sure there will be a replay to label
Chapter labels go on the archived video, not on the live broadcast while it is underway. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. For a long continuous class, keep a local recording as a backup rather than relying on the replay being available. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.
Add manual chapters to the replay
- In YouTube Studio, select Content, then choose the Live tab.
- Open the archived stream’s details and edit its description.
- At the point in the description where you want the chapter list, add each replay timestamp followed by a descriptive label. Use the finished replay to find the actual start time of every segment; the sample below is only a format example.
- Save the description, then view the replay and check that the chapter divisions and labels appear where expected.
A yoga-oriented example might look like this:
00:00 Welcome and breath setting
08:30 Seated warm-up
18:00 Standing flow
34:00 Balance work
46:00 Cool-down and savasana
Replace every sample time with the corresponding time in your own replay. Play around each boundary to confirm the label describes the practice that actually begins there. YouTube’s instructions for adding video chapters specify the timestamp format and requirements; using them on a live replay is the practical application of those instructions to an archived video.
Meet YouTube’s manual chapter requirements
- Start the list at
00:00(or0:00) and add a title, such as00:00 Welcome and setup. - Include at least three timestamps, listed in ascending order.
- Make every chapter at least 10 seconds long.
Manually entered chapters override automatic chapters. YouTube also notes that chapter access and video eligibility can affect whether chapters are available.

Manual or automatic chapters?
| Option | Control over labels and boundaries | Work required | Availability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manual chapters | You choose the yoga-specific names and exact boundaries. | You must determine accurate replay timestamps and enter the labels. | Subject to chapter access and video eligibility; manual entries override automatic chapters. |
| Automatic chapters | YouTube selects the sections; the creator does not provide the same direct control over names and boundaries. | Less manual timestamping when the feature is available. | Optional and eligibility-dependent. YouTube says not every video is eligible, and not every eligible video receives automatic chapters. |
You can enable automatic chapters in YouTube Studio when the option is available. For named practices such as “standing flow,” “balance work,” or “cool-down,” manual entries are the more dependable way to specify what viewers should see. See YouTube’s video details editing guidance.
What chapter labels do for viewers
Chapters divide the replay into sections with previews. Viewers can select divisions on the progress bar or use chapter titles in the description and player to move to a warm-up, a particular flow, or the closing relaxation. The replay remains one continuous video; chapters make its sections easier to navigate, rather than turning them into separate uploads. See YouTube’s chapter navigation guidance.

If the chapters do not appear
- Check the format: confirm the first entry starts at
00:00, there are at least three timestamps, and the times ascend. - Check chapter lengths: make sure each section lasts at least 10 seconds.
- Check access and eligibility: YouTube says chapters may be unavailable to channels without chapter access; creators who do not yet have access can apply for advanced features. Chapters may also be unavailable if the channel has active strikes or the content is potentially inappropriate to some viewers.
- Check the replay itself: confirm the archive exists and that the description was saved on the replay’s video details, not on a different upload or live listing.
These checks follow YouTube’s chapter requirements and its archive guidance. YouTube’s interface and eligibility decisions can change, so the available options in Studio may differ.
