To include background music throughout a Restream pre-recorded YouTube stream, mix the music into the video file before uploading it, then schedule that finished file in Restream. Restream’s documented Music controls are for Studio playback; its pre-recorded workflow selects and schedules a video file, and the documentation does not say Studio music is mixed into an uploaded recording.
Choose the right way to add music
| Method | Best for | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Mix music into the video before upload | A pre-recorded event where music should be present through the recording | Music becomes part of the finished video’s audio. Prepare the file outside Restream; its documented pre-recorded workflow does not describe an in-product audio-mixing feature. |
| Play music in Restream Studio | A Studio stream workflow | Use Studio’s built-in music or upload a custom track and control playback there. The documented controls do not establish that Studio playback adds music to an already uploaded pre-recorded video. |
Restream describes pre-recorded events as scheduled video files or playlists that air automatically. Its Studio music instructions cover music played during a Studio stream, so use the first method when the music must accompany the recorded video for its full duration. Restream’s pre-recorded event instructions and custom music guidance describe these separate workflows.
Mix music into the video before uploading
- Prepare the video and music in an editor. Add the licensed music as an audio track, position it where it should begin, and trim or loop it to fit the recording. Adjust its level so narration, dialogue, or other important audio remains clear. These are editing steps outside Restream; the Restream documentation does not specify an editor or mixing controls.
- Listen through the finished export. Check the beginning and ending, transitions, and any points where speech or other important audio could be masked. Confirm the music ends when intended and that the complete video plays as expected.
- Export to Restream’s required format. Restream lists MP4, MOV, M4V, and MKV containers; H.264 video encoding; AAC audio; and a keyframe value of 2 for pre-recorded videos. Check the final exported file against its pre-recorded video requirements.
- Schedule the finished file. From the Restream home screen, select + New Stream, then Pre-recorded livestream and Video. Choose the file from Uploads or Recordings, or upload it from your device. Enter the event title, description, date, and time; continue, enable YouTube among the channels, and create the event. Restream says the video airs automatically at the scheduled time, and you can monitor it while it airs. See Schedule your video as a pre-recorded event.
Use Studio music for a Studio stream
If you mean a Restream Studio stream rather than music embedded in a scheduled recording, open Studio and select Music to choose built-in music by genre or mood and control playback and volume. To use your own track, open the Studio music controls’ Custom area and upload it. Restream documents controls to play, seek, loop, adjust volume, and reorder custom tracks. Music assigned per scene is currently available only for Countdown scenes; otherwise tracks can be selected and played across the stream. Details are in Restream’s copyright-free music instructions and custom music instructions.
Choose music you have rights to use
Restream strongly advises against uploading music you do not own or have a license to use. It warns that platforms may shut down streams or impose strikes or penalties over unlicensed music. Check that your rights cover the intended use and destination; “copyright-free” or licensed does not guarantee a track will never be claimed.

Restream’s Music Licensing page says its music may be used free in multimedia projects, including YouTube videos and live streams, under an attribution license. It gives these example credits: “Music from Restream.io (https://restream.io/)” or “Music: “[Song Title]” from Restream.io”. The same page prohibits claiming the music as your own, registering it in a store or commercial platform, using it for audiobooks or as a standalone track, remixing it into a new standalone musical work, registering it with Facebook or YouTube Rights Manager, or creating a copyright claim for it. Confirm the current license terms and include the required credit before publishing.
Check audio settings without confusing upload requirements
For pre-recorded uploads, Restream lists AAC as the required audio codec. Separately, its YouTube streaming guidance recommends AAC or MP3 audio, 128 Kbps for stereo or 384 Kbps for 5.1 surround, and a sample rate of 44.1 kHz for stereo or 48 kHz for 5.1. Those YouTube recommendations are not a replacement for the pre-recorded file requirements. See Restream’s YouTube settings alongside the pre-recorded requirements.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The scheduled recording has no background music. If music was only selected in Studio, it may not be part of the pre-recorded file. Mix the track into the video externally, export a new file, and schedule that version.
- Restream rejects the upload. Check that the container is MP4, MOV, M4V, or MKV; video encoding is H.264; audio codec is AAC; and keyframe value is 2.
- Music is too loud or starts at the wrong time. Correct the track’s level, timing, or duration in the editing project, export again, and review the finished file before replacing the scheduled video.
- A Studio track does not follow scene changes as expected. Restream says per-scene music is currently available only for Countdown scenes; otherwise tracks can be selected and played across the stream.
- You are concerned about a copyright claim. Confirm the license covers the music, video, and YouTube use, and follow any attribution terms. Restream warns about possible platform enforcement; it does not establish the outcome of YouTube’s claim or dispute process for a particular track or event.
