First decide what “now playing” means: an episode being discussed, or a music track heard on stream. A track overlay may update automatically from its connected player, but that does not mean it can identify podcast episodes.
Choose the information the overlay should display
The overlay can only show information its data source provides. For a podcast episode title, choose an integration that explicitly receives that episode metadata, or use a manually maintained OBS label. For a music track, a track-oriented provider may offer an automatically updating overlay when its connected player changes tracks. Do not assume that a music overlay can detect the episode being discussed.
- Episode title: Verify that the integration supports the podcast player or metadata source you use. The available setup documentation does not establish a universal podcast-player-to-OBS episode overlay.
- Music track: Check that the provider supports the player supplying the track information and confirm how the overlay behaves if its page or data source stops updating.
- Manual label: Use an OBS Text Source when you want to control the wording yourself and can update it as the episode or subject changes.
When comparing options, consider metadata compatibility, whether updates are automatic, visual controls such as typography and position, fallback behavior, and whether you can preview the result before broadcasting.
Add an automatic track overlay in OBS
- Get the overlay URL. In the provider’s account or dashboard, open its overlay area and copy the overlay URL. The reviewed Now Playing provider describes its overlay as a live webpage that updates when the connected track changes; its setup guide says it requires no plugins or scripts. Use a provider that supports the player supplying your track metadata.
- Add a Browser Source. In OBS, select the scene for your live stream, then use the Sources panel’s add control and choose Browser. Paste the overlay URL into the URL field. OBS’s source guide documents Browser Source for adding a webpage to a scene.
- Set the source dimensions. Use the dimensions recommended by the overlay provider, or set dimensions that suit the label and your canvas. The provider dashboard guide supplies a recommended browser-source size.
- Position and layer it. Place the source where it will not cover the host, captions, or other essential information. In the Sources list, ensure the overlay is above the video layer it should appear over.
- Preview the overlay. If the provider offers a sample-track preview, send one and check that the text appears, updates, and is legible at your stream’s output resolution. Make any needed size or position adjustments before going live.
A Browser Source embeds the provider’s webpage; OBS does not determine whether its metadata is correct. Check the displayed track against the connected player before relying on it during a broadcast.

Show a podcast episode title with an OBS Text Source
If the label should name the episode currently under discussion and no verified integration supplies that episode metadata, make it a manual label. OBS describes Text Sources as customizable text sources.
- In OBS, select the podcast livestream scene and add a Text source from the Sources panel.
- Enter the episode title or the wording you want viewers to see, then adjust its appearance and placement on the canvas.
- Preview the scene at the stream’s output resolution. Check that the label is readable and does not obscure the host or other important content.
- Update the text when the episode or discussion changes. If you also use a Browser Source, keep a manual label available as a fallback if the external overlay stops updating.
This method requires producer input; it does not automatically discover an episode title. If automatic updates are essential, verify the proposed integration’s episode metadata support before using it on air.

Use a Streamlabs overlay if its widget fits
Streamlabs documents adding a widget URL to OBS or another supported streaming application as a Browser Source, then setting its dimensions and position on the canvas. Its overlay guide also describes an overlay library and a plugin route for bringing Streamlabs overlays into OBS Studio. These are general ways to add overlays, not proof that a particular widget reads podcast episode metadata. Check the selected widget’s actual data source and preview it before broadcasting.
OBS says it does not directly provide stream alerts; third-party alert overlays can be embedded through a Browser Source. The same general distinction applies here: the provider supplies the webpage or widget, while OBS places it in the scene.

Check the overlay before the livestream
- Confirm the displayed information is the intended episode title or track, rather than assuming the overlay’s label describes what it can detect.
- Check the source dimensions, text legibility at output resolution, position, and layer order.
- Use a provider preview or sample output when available, and verify the result in the OBS scene.
- Consider what viewers will see if the overlay page or connected data source stops updating; keep a manual label option if continuity matters.
