How to Add a Now-Playing Lesson Title to a 24/7 YouTube Education Stream

A changing lesson title needs an encoder overlay tied to the same schedule as playback. Set up the browser source, connect it to YouTube, and test transitions and recovery.

To show the lesson currently playing on a continuous YouTube education stream, add a browser-source graphic to your encoder and have it display the active lesson title from the same playlist or schedule that drives playback. YouTube supports encoder streams and browser-source overlays; the title-to-playlist connection requires its own data source and update logic, rather than a built-in YouTube widget.

How the now-playing title works

Your encoder combines the lesson video with a graphic layer, then sends the composed video to YouTube. The graphic must receive the active lesson title and change when playback moves to the next lesson. YouTube describes an encoder this way: “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” YouTube Help’s encoder guide also documents browser-source overlays, but its example is an away or break slate—not a ready-made, playlist-aware lesson-title system.

The dependable design is to make playback and the overlay read from one source of truth. If the playlist advances but the title schedule does not, the graphic will be wrong even though both systems are working. The playlist schema and update logic are implementation choices, not a YouTube-prescribed recipe.

Build a lesson-title overlay that stays in sync

1. Put lesson order and timing in one schedule

Record each lesson’s title and its position in the sequence. For a fixed loop, include each item’s duration or start and end positions so software can calculate which title should be active at a given point in the playback cycle. For an operator-controlled playlist, provide a simple control to set the current lesson when playback changes. In either case, connect the title selection to the playback sequence rather than maintaining a separate, manually timed list.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

2. Create the graphic as a browser source

Make a small web page or local HTML graphic that displays the current title. Use large, readable type, strong contrast against the video, and a position inside the frame’s safe margins so the title is not obscured by cropping or screen controls. Set the browser source’s dimensions to match the encoder’s output canvas, following YouTube’s documented browser-source setup as adapted to your encoder and graphic.

Decide what the graphic should show when the title is missing—for example, a neutral “Lesson title unavailable” message—rather than leaving stale metadata on screen. Keep the displayed title concise enough to read at the intended output size.

3. Make the title update at lesson boundaries

Have the graphic read a small JSON or text value, or receive updates from a local control page. At each lesson boundary, the scheduler or operator updates that value and the overlay refreshes or receives the new title. A fixed prerecorded loop can map elapsed playback time to a lesson; a playlist controlled by a person can use an explicit “current lesson” action. These are design approaches, not features specified by YouTube’s help or API documentation.

4. Add the overlay above the video layer

In your encoder, add the browser source, set its canvas dimensions to the stream output size, and place it above the lesson video. Confirm that the encoder can load the selected local or hosted source, and that the source is available for the full run. YouTube’s overlay instructions demonstrate the browser-source mechanism; the lesson graphic and its data connection are yours to configure.

5. Connect the encoder to YouTube

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live to enter the Live Control Room, then select or create the event or stream you will use.
  2. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into the encoder’s streaming settings. YouTube explains the encoder connection in its live streaming encoder guide.
  3. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or put it in a public page or repository. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the replacement. See YouTube’s stream-key guidance.
  4. Start the encoder and wait for the Live Control Room preview before taking the stream live. Confirm that both the video and title graphic appear.

6. Test real transitions before relying on the stream

Watch the preview while moving from one lesson to the next. Check that the title changes at the correct boundary, remains readable over different footage, and recovers if the metadata update is delayed or the overlay source reloads. Also test an encoder restart and confirm that the title is recalculated from the current playback position rather than reverting to the first lesson. YouTube recommends previewing and monitoring an encoder stream; these additional overlay checks are practical safeguards for this workflow.

What YouTube’s Live Streaming API can—and cannot—do here

YouTube’s Live Streaming API represents a scheduled event as a liveBroadcast and its incoming audio/video feed as a liveStream. The API supports creating, managing, binding, transitioning, and monitoring those resources. Its documented role is event and feed management, not rendering changing graphics inside the video. Keep the on-screen title in the encoder-side overlay unless you have independently verified a tool that connects your lesson schedule to that graphic.

Plan for 24/7 operation

A continuous stream needs an owner for more than the video feed: playback, the title schedule, the overlay page, the encoder, and the YouTube connection can each fail independently. Decide how you will detect a stalled encoder, unavailable overlay, or mismatch between lesson and title, and who or what will restart the affected component. Monitor the Live Control Room and check that the graphic remains current after recovery.

For recurring events, YouTube documents encoder-based live streaming and notes cloud streaming services as an option. If considering a service, verify that it supports your actual playlist and browser-source or equivalent overlay workflow; the existence of cloud streaming alone does not establish that it can update your lesson title at each boundary.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the main burden is keeping prerecorded lessons streaming around the clock, StreamNeo is a cloud option for YouTube: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card.

Every slot includes 24/7 looping and playlists, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, and support from the StreamNeo team. The StreamNeo facts here do not establish a playlist-aware lesson-title overlay, so confirm that your title-update workflow is compatible before switching from an encoder/browser-source setup. See StreamNeo for service details.

  1. Upload your lesson recording or build a playlist.
  2. Add your YouTube stream key once.
  3. Go live and let the cloud loop the uploaded video.

For reference, the monthly plan is $9.99 per month. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
