In OBS Studio, create a Yoga Nidra program scene and a separate break scene, then use a looping countdown clip, a manual scene change, or a timer script to control when the break appears. Rehearse the full countdown-to-break-to-return cycle before streaming; the reliable method depends on whether you want hands-on control or automation.
Build the Yoga Nidra and break scenes
- Create two scenes. In OBS Studio’s Scenes panel, add one scene for the Yoga Nidra program and another named “Break.” A scene is a layout of sources, so keep the program and break visuals separate.
- Add the break background. Select the Break scene, add an Image source, choose your background image, and size and position it in the preview.
- Add the break message or timer. Add a text source for a simple message, or use a transparent text graphic as an overlay. Arrange the sources so the text or graphic sits above the background in the source order.
- Choose the countdown format. For a pre-rendered local countdown clip, add a Media Source and select the file. Turn on its Loop property if it should repeat; looping is off by default. A clip can be a good choice when you want a fixed visual and do not need to change the countdown duration during the session.

Choose how the stream changes scenes
Manual switching with Studio Mode or a hotkey
For a session where you are present to operate OBS, use Studio Mode to prepare the next scene before transitioning it to the live output. Alternatively, configure a hotkey to switch directly to a specific scene. This keeps the timing in your hands and avoids relying on a script, but someone must be available to make the change.
Automatic switching with a timer script
A timer script can run a countdown and perform an action when it expires, such as cycling scenes or sources. The resource documentation describes ways to start a timer based on conditions including streaming starting, a selected scene becoming active, or a timer text source becoming visible. Follow the exact setup for the script version you install and check that its scene and source names match your OBS project.

Timer behavior is script- and version-specific. The resource’s version 5.8 update, dated February 15, 2024, says some expiry lists require names to be entered manually; it also warns that a list containing only one source or scene will not reset the timer. Do not assume these details apply to every timer script or OBS release. Check the instructions for your installed version at the OBS forum resources page.

A 2019 community forum reply suggested separate timed scenes and a scene-switcher plugin for alternating work and break periods. Treat that as an older community suggestion, not a guarantee that a particular plugin works with your current OBS version. Verify compatibility and test it before depending on it for a continuous stream.

Rehearse the full countdown and return
- Start the countdown using the same trigger you intend to use during the live session.
- Confirm it begins at the intended time and displays correctly in the stream output.
- Let it expire and verify that the Break scene appears with the expected background and message.
- Check what happens to the Yoga Nidra media when scenes change. Confirm the program resumes or continues as intended when you return to its scene.
- Practice the return transition and any next countdown. If you use a timer script, also test what happens after stopping and restarting the stream or changing scene visibility.
OBS recommends testing scene configuration and stream operation before going live. A complete rehearsal is especially important when a script controls scene changes: it exposes incorrect source names, trigger assumptions, and unexpected behavior before they interrupt the session.
