The Yellowstone finale gives Beth and Rip a separate Montana ranch and a home with Carter, while Kayce transfers the original Yellowstone ranch to Thomas Rainwater and keeps East Camp for his family. Beth also kills Jamie, bringing their conflict to an end. Those choices clear the way for the couple’s next chapter, which Paramount later titled Dutton Ranch.
What happens to Beth and Rip in the finale?
Beth tells Rip she has bought a ranch about 40 miles outside Dillon, Montana. The finale ends with Beth, Rip, and Carter together at the new home. It gives the couple a place of their own and establishes Carter as part of their family life, rather than leaving their future tied to the original Yellowstone ranch.
The move does not mean the original ranch remains in Dutton hands. Kayce arranges its sale to Thomas Rainwater, with permission for his family to keep East Camp. The Duttons lose ownership of the central ranch, but Kayce’s family retains a limited connection to the land.
How does Jamie’s death affect the spin-off setup?
Beth kills Jamie after he attacks her and Rip intervenes. Rip and Lloyd dispose of Jamie’s body. That confrontation ends the central Beth-Jamie conflict instead of carrying it forward as the main unresolved story for the spin-off.

What is the spin-off about?
Paramount’s March 23, 2026 announcement named the continuation Dutton Ranch. It describes Beth and Rip trying to build a future away from Yellowstone as they face new realities and a rival ranch. The finale supplies the starting point—a home and a life apart from the original ranch—while the sequel introduces a different setting and conflict.
The distinction matters: the finale establishes Beth and Rip’s new ranch in Montana. The later Dutton Ranch premise places them in Rio Paloma, Texas. The Texas setting belongs to the spin-off, not to the ending of Yellowstone.
