Sabrina Carpenter became part of the “Domingo” story in February 2025, joining the SNL50 anniversary sketch as the wedding-party parody returned. The reunion began with an October 2024 sketch that turned Carpenter’s hit “Espresso” into a bridesmaids’ song—and made Marcello Hernández’s Domingo the groom’s unexpected rival.
How “Espresso” became the original “Domingo” sketch
“Domingo: Bridesmaid Speech” aired on October 12, 2024, during an episode hosted by Ariana Grande. Grande, Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim, and Sarah Sherman played bridesmaids singing about a bachelorette trip. Chloe Fineman was the bride, Kelsey, and Andrew Dismukes played her groom, Matt. Their song rewrote Carpenter’s “Espresso”: its lyrics gradually revealed that Kelsey had an affair with Domingo, played by Hernández, who appeared near the end.
The sketch’s musical setup came from SNL writers Jimmy Fowlie and Ceara O’Sullivan, with Sudi Green and Allie Levitan helping develop it. Fowlie said he had seen a maid-of-honor speech sung to “Hamilton” circulating on Instagram. O’Sullivan recalled the spark for the parody: “Should we do ‘Espresso’ rhymed with ‘Domingo’?” The writers built the scene around the bridesmaids’ deliberately poor singing. Grande understood the choice, O’Sullivan said: “I need to sing off-key. That’s what this demands of me.”
Carpenter approved the sketch—and met Domingo at a concert
Carpenter shared the sketch and signaled her approval. On November 17, 2024, Hernández appeared as Domingo during a recurring bit at Carpenter’s Los Angeles concert, where she mock-arrested an audience member. When she asked where he was from, LateNighter reported, he answered in character: “I’m from Miami, baby.” That concert moment brought the fictional Domingo into Carpenter’s live show, but it was separate from her later appearance in an SNL sketch.

Carpenter joined the SNL50 vow-renewal sketch
On February 16, 2025, the SNL50 anniversary special revisited the wedding story in “Domingo: Vow Renewal.” In the official SNL upload, Carpenter joins Gardner, Nwodim, and Sherman to sing for Fineman’s character before Hernández’s Domingo interrupts. The larger sketch also brought in SNL veterans and guests including Martin Short, Molly Shannon, Beck Bennett, Kyle Mooney, Bowen Yang, Pedro Pascal, and Bad Bunny. Carpenter’s participation made the anniversary installment the clearest on-screen reunion of the singer and the character inspired by her song.
What the viral-view figure means
Vanity Fair’s June 17, 2025 oral history reported that NBC’s season-end tally credited the original sketch with 171 million total social-media views, making it the season’s most-watched SNL sketch on social media. That is a season-end figure attributed to NBC, not a live or current count across platforms. The cast and crew, Vanity Fair reported, did not realize the sketch was going viral until the next day.
