Reporting points to a reinforcing loop: Pauline and Mathilde Tantot built visibility on Instagram through beach and bikini modeling, while using their accounts to promote their swimwear brand, Khassani Swimwear. The images drew attention to the brand, and the brand gave their accounts a recurring fashion focus. The available coverage supports that explanation, but does not establish one post or one cause as the definitive breakthrough.
Instagram made their image easy to recognize and share
The sisters were covered as models and social-media personalities, with beach and bikini imagery central to how they appeared online. A Famous Birthdays profile says Pauline published her first Instagram post in January 2014; that date comes from a secondary biography, not a platform archive. Famous Birthdays
That visual consistency helps explain how their accounts attracted attention: followers encountered a recognizable mix of swimwear, beach settings, and fashion modeling. It is a plausible account of their visibility, not evidence that any single image went viral or independently caused their rise.
Khassani Swimwear connected their audience to a business
Their fame was not described only as modeling. A December 2020 feature in Public said the sisters posted campaigns for their own brand, Khassani Swimwear, and that the campaigns contributed to the growth of their accounts. This made the relationship reciprocal: Instagram distributed the brand’s imagery, while the brand supplied a continuing subject for their Instagram presence. Public

A September 2026 ActuLT Times profile summarizes earlier French press coverage describing them as the creators behind Khassani Swimwear. Because that is a later secondary summary, it does not establish a precise founding date or the brand’s current business status. ActuLT Times
What the dated follower figures show
Press reports document a substantial audience over time, but these figures are snapshots from separate articles—not audited measurements from one continuous dataset.

| Reported date | Audience figure | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| January 2018 | About 1 million combined followers | Laetitia Reboulleau’s January 2021 Yahoo Finance France article gives this as a historical comparison point. |
| December 2020 | Mathilde: 8.8 million; Pauline: 5 million | Figures reported by Public at the time. |
| January 2021 | About 15 million combined followers | Estimate reported by Laetitia Reboulleau in Yahoo Finance France. |
The sequence indicates that their reach had grown substantially by the time of those reports. It does not establish their current follower totals, and the figures should not be combined as though they came from the same measurement or date. Yahoo Finance France

The available coverage does not identify a definitive viral post or provide a usable direct explanation from Pauline or Mathilde about how their popularity began. The strongest supported answer is therefore an attributed synthesis: Instagram modeling and promotion of Khassani Swimwear appear to have reinforced one another as their audience grew. That is more defensible than crediting a single post, the brand alone, or an unverified story about their personal background.
