Solid Snake became a permanent Attacker in Rainbow Six Siege with Operation Silent Hunt on March 3, 2026. His local-area radar and scavenged gadgets adapt recognizable Metal Gear ideas to Siege’s tactical systems, while a time-limited event and seasonal cosmetics extended the crossover. Ubisoft announced and describes the in-game content; its announcement credits both Ubisoft and Konami, but does not explain their licensing terms or divide creative responsibilities.
What did the Metal Gear and Siege crossover add?
The collaboration arrived as part of Operation Silent Hunt. Its centerpiece was Solid Snake, a permanent playable Operator, rather than a character available only during a special event. Ubisoft lists him as an Attacker with Intel and Front Line specialties on its Solid Snake Operator profile.
The season also brought Metal Gear-themed cosmetics and a separate limited-time mode. Those additions made the crossover broader than a character skin, but they were not all permanent or available on the same terms.
How does Solid Snake work in Rainbow Six Siege?
Soliton Radar MKIII gives local, counterable intel
Snake’s Soliton Radar MKIII scans the floor he occupies and connected staircases. Its display shows a local layout, including soft walls and floors, and reports threat states: green means “All Clear,” yellow indicates an active default CCTV camera being watched by an enemy, and red signals one or more detected enemies. It is a local-area tool, not a building-wide minimap, and it does not reliably reveal every defender.

A limited precision mode can show detected enemies’ positions and vision cones. It is constrained by charges and a cooldown, and use can alert defenders. The radar detects default cameras, not every operator camera gadget. Ubisoft also identifies counterplay: Alibi’s Prisma holograms can produce misleading operator readings, Vigil can cloak, and Mute jammers disrupt the radar.
On-Site Procurement turns scavenging into a utility choice
Snake starts with one secondary-gadget item. When an Operator is eliminated, they may drop a pouch; Snake can scavenge it and choose which empty gadget slot to fill. He can hold at most one item in each of five categories:

This turns his scavenging identity into a round-by-round decision about which utility to carry, rather than a direct recreation of a Metal Gear inventory system.
His weapons connect Siege’s roster to Snake’s role
Ubisoft lists the F2 assault rifle and PMR90A2 designated marksman rifle as his primary options. His new TACIT .45 secondary pistol has an integrated suppressor and reflex sight. These are Siege loadout choices: the available sources describe the equipment, not a claim that the game reproduces Snake’s full arsenal from the source series.

How do you unlock Solid Snake in Siege?
Ubisoft said the season’s Battle Pass unlocked Snake at the start of Operation Silent Hunt, which began March 3, 2026. That establishes the launch-season unlock route, not current pricing or availability. The official materials cited here do not establish what it costs to unlock him now or whether that route remains available.
What was the limited-time Metal Gear event?
Ubisoft’s [REDACTED] event ran from March 25 through April 8, 2026. It is no longer live. The event was a 4v4 hack-and-extract mode with two phases: attackers hacked data, then carried the MO disc to extraction, while defenders delayed or stopped them.

The mode took place on Modified Nighthaven, which Ubisoft said was inspired by Shadow Moses Island. Attackers could play Zero, Solid Snake, Iana, Ash, or Maverick; defenders could play Smoke, Ela, Jackal, Kaid, or Kapkan.
The event also featured limited-time cosmetics and bundles, including Jackal as Grey Fox, Ash as Meryl, and Kaid as Revolver Ocelot. Ubisoft offered event packs through weekly challenges and a Twitch Drop during the event window; those were time-limited offers, not evidence of current availability.

What other Metal Gear content came with Operation Silent Hunt?
The season’s Battle Pass included franchise cosmetics, among them a Psycho Mantis outfit for Smoke. That puts the crossover in two distinct categories: Snake’s permanent playable Operator content and cosmetics or event activities tied to the season’s promotions.
Ubisoft’s launch announcement says the voice-over was cast for Siege and does not represent an interpretation of Solid Snake’s voice within the Metal Gear series. In a Ubisoft-authored launch article for Xbox Wire, Chris Watters said David Hayter reprises the role. That is a casting statement about Snake’s Siege performance, not a declaration about continuity or characterization across the Metal Gear series.
What Ubisoft and Konami’s roles are—and what is not established
Ubisoft announced the Siege content and provides the detailed descriptions of Snake, his kit, and the event. The announcement’s copyright line credits both Ubisoft and Konami. The official material cited here does not explain the licensing or financial arrangement, nor does it identify which company made particular creative decisions or developed specific parts of Snake’s Siege kit.
Ubisoft Senior Editorial Comms Manager Chris Watters described Snake in a launch-day article as “an enemy-pinpointing powerhouse of a gadget that delivers intel to a degree that Siege has never seen.” That is Ubisoft’s promotional description, not an independent evaluation of the radar or a measured comparison.
How to explore the Metal Gear games separately
The Siege crossover does not require owning a Metal Gear game. For readers interested in the source franchise, Konami’s METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol. 1 gathers Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and additional titles and bonus content. Edition availability varies by platform and region; Konami documented a physical PS4 release for EMEA.
