Rare Beauty launched in September 2020. By spring 2024, TIME described the brand as not yet four years old and reported $400 million in sales for the 12 months ending in May. That figure is a period-specific sales report, not a statement of profit or Gomez’s personal earnings. TIME’s 2024 profile also described annual sales growth of 100% from 2021 to 2022, followed by 200% the next year.
Those numbers establish a fast-growing business. They do not, on their own, establish that Gomez’s net worth increased by a particular amount, let alone prove that it “exponentially” increased. Personal net worth includes assets and liabilities beyond one company, while private-company ownership is not the same as cash in hand.
Why Rare Beauty became central to Gomez’s wealth estimates
Rare Beauty is the main reason some 2024 coverage characterized Gomez as a billionaire. TIME summarized a September 2024 Bloomberg estimate that put her net worth at $1.3 billion and attributed about 81% of it to Rare Beauty. The 81% was an attribution within that estimate, not a disclosed payout or a company statement of Gomez’s exact ownership. TIME’s summary of Bloomberg’s estimate makes clear why the brand was treated as central to the calculation.

Other reporting has produced different results. Forbes estimated Gomez’s net worth at about $700 million in 2025. Its reporting also put Rare Beauty’s value at approximately $1.3 billion, drawing on analyst input, and cited a California filing showing $367 million in company revenue for 2023. The revenue figure is company revenue from a filing—not profit, a valuation, or Gomez’s personal income. Forbes’ 2025 report explains its separate estimates.
These figures cannot be combined into a precise before-and-after calculation. They refer to different things, use different methods, and were published at different times. No audited personal balance sheet or definitive company valuation disclosure in the cited coverage settles Gomez’s current net worth or Rare Beauty’s fair-market value.

A private-company valuation estimates what the business might be worth; it does not mean the company was sold for that amount or that its founder can immediately spend a matching share of it. A net-worth estimate may account for an ownership stake, but the cited reporting does not provide a single, independently verified figure that resolves the differences.
What the sales figures say about Rare Beauty’s success
Growth across the company
TIME reported Rare Beauty’s sales grew 100% from 2021 to 2022 and then 200% the following year. It also reported $400 million in sales for the 12 months ending in May 2024. The measures describe company performance across the stated periods; they should not be presented as a current annual run rate or as Gomez’s personal earnings.

A standout product
TIME reported that Rare Beauty’s Soft Pinch Liquid Blush generated $70 million in sales in 2023. That is sales for one product, not profit, net income, or money paid to Gomez. It offers a concrete example of the brand’s commercial reach without explaining the entirety of its valuation. TIME’s profile includes the product-sales figure.
The company’s stated mission
Rare Beauty’s growth story also includes a mental-health mission. At the 2024 TIME100 Summit, Gomez said, “I didn’t want to really enter the cosmetics world without a mission,” describing her decision to launch the brand. TIME reported the company’s pledge to direct 1% of product sales to the Rare Impact Fund, which has a $100 million fundraising goal. What can be concluded about the four-year wealth claim?
Rare Beauty became a large, rapidly growing business in fewer than four years, and estimates published in 2024 connected much of Gomez’s wealth to the company. But later estimates differ: Forbes put her net worth at about $700 million in 2025, while Bloomberg’s earlier estimate, as summarized by TIME, was $1.3 billion. Company valuations also vary across reports. The defensible conclusion is that Rare Beauty materially contributed to estimates of Gomez’s wealth; the available reporting does not establish an exact amount her net worth increased, or a definitive current figure.
