Viewers can then donate from the stream’s watch page or, if live chat is enabled, from chat. Check channel eligibility and the nonprofit’s eligibility separately: meeting one set of requirements does not guarantee the other.
Check whether your channel can use YouTube Giving
YouTube lists four channel requirements: the channel must be in an eligible location, have at least 10,000 subscribers, belong to the YouTube Partner Program and not be designated as made for kids. YouTube notes that some channels outside those criteria may still see fundraising access. Check YouTube Studio > Earn > Giving and the current YouTube Giving FAQs before planning around the feature. The eligible-location list can change; do not assume a country is supported if it is not listed.
Channel access and charity eligibility are separate. A channel may have Giving access while a particular nonprofit is unavailable or does not qualify.
Check that the nonprofit is eligible
YouTube Giving fundraisers support eligible US-registered 501(c)(3) public charities. The organization must be requested by a creator, opt in to online fundraising through GuideStar and comply with YouTube monetization policies. Google’s nonprofit guidance also calls for the organization to participate in Google for Nonprofits. Private foundations are not currently supported. If the nonprofit does not appear in the selection list, check its legal or DBA name and confirm its eligibility and online-fundraising opt-in. Some requests to add an eligible nonprofit can take up to five business days. That is not the same as the separate review window for activating the YouTube Nonprofit Program.
Create and publish the fundraiser
- Open the fundraiser tools. In YouTube Studio, go to Earn > Giving > Get started > Create a fundraiser. You can also set one up from Live Control Room under Advanced Settings. The exact labels may change; follow the current YouTube Giving setup instructions.
- Select or request the nonprofit. Choose the intended organization from the list. If it is missing, verify its name and eligibility before submitting a request.
- Enter the fundraiser details. Add a clear title and description. Set a goal and duration if they suit the campaign; these are optional.
- Attach the scheduled livestream. Select the event the fundraiser will accompany, then review the setup.
- Publish. The donate button appears after the fundraiser’s start date, not merely because the fundraiser has been created.
Plan the stream itself around your organization’s production setup. YouTube’s fundraising instructions do not make a particular camera, microphone, lighting kit, computer or encoder a requirement for YouTube Giving.

Make the donation flow visible during the event
Viewers can donate on the livestream watch page or through live chat. The live-chat Donate button requires chat to be enabled. On mobile, viewers need to use portrait orientation to see chat. If the channel or video is designated as made for kids, the donate button may not appear.
Live Chat Donations replaced Super Chat for Good. YouTube says Super Chat and Super Stickers are unavailable on streams using Live Chat Donations, and members-only live chat cannot be used with the donate button. Account for those constraints when planning how viewers will participate.

During the event, a producer can monitor contributions in chat and in Live Control Room’s Viewer Activity Widget. Afterward, basic fundraiser totals and details are available in YouTube Studio > Earn > Giving.
Explain what donors should expect
When donating, a viewer chooses an amount and payment method and can choose whether their username appears publicly in live chat. If they do not show it, the donation amount appears as “Anonymous.” YouTube says the creator and nonprofit do not see the donor’s personal information; a receipt is emailed after processing. Donations are non-refundable. A receipt alone does not establish tax deductibility for every donor or jurisdiction, so donors should consult applicable tax guidance.

YouTube says it pays transaction fees, so 100% of donations go to the eligible nonprofit. Google partners with Network for Good to collect and distribute donations at Google’s request, and the nonprofit must opt in to receive the funds. The cited US English help pages do not give a specific payout date, so do not promise one; the organization should confirm its own arrangements. See the donor guidance and fundraiser setup guidance.

Google for Nonprofits identifies external fundraising sites such as GoFundMe or JustGiving as alternatives for linking from video end screens when an organization cannot use YouTube Giving. That guidance concerns end-screen links; it does not establish a direct livestream donation integration. Check the external provider’s current link rules, fees and terms, and make the payment destination clear to viewers. See Google for Nonprofits’ audience and supporter guidance.

Troubleshoot missing access or a missing donate button
- Giving is absent in Studio: Review the channel location, subscriber threshold, YouTube Partner Program membership and audience designation. Some channels outside the listed criteria may still have access, so check Earn > Giving and the current FAQ.
- The nonprofit is not listed: Confirm its legal or DBA name, US 501(c)(3) status, GuideStar online-fundraising opt-in and Google for Nonprofits participation. A request can take up to five business days.
- The fundraiser exists but viewers cannot donate: Confirm the fundraiser has started and is attached to the intended scheduled livestream. A donate button does not appear before the fundraiser start date.
- The chat Donate option is missing: Check that live chat is enabled and that the stream is not using members-only chat. Mobile viewers should switch to portrait orientation to see chat. Check whether the content is designated as made for kids.
For activation of the YouTube Nonprofit Program, YouTube says review takes 2–14 business days. This window concerns activation requests, not requests to add a fundraiser recipient. Details are on the activation page.
