How Much Does YouTube Take From Channel Memberships in India?

YouTube’s published creator share is 70% of membership revenue recognized after applicable deductions—not automatically 70% of the Indian checkout price.

YouTube says creators receive 70% of channel-membership revenue that Google recognizes after local sales tax and other applicable fees are deducted. The remaining 30% is the arithmetic share of that same net amount—not necessarily 30% of the price an Indian member sees at checkout.

How YouTube calculates the membership revenue share

YouTube’s membership billing guidance says creators get 70% of membership revenue recognized by Google after local sales tax and other fees are deducted. YouTube says those deductions can depend on the country or region and the user’s platform. It currently covers payment-processing fees, including credit-card fees. YouTube Help: Billing and payment info for channel members.

For a simplified calculation, let R be the revenue Google recognizes after the applicable deductions. The published creator share is 0.70 × R; the implied remainder is 0.30 × R. The 30% figure is the arithmetic complement of YouTube’s stated share, not a separate promise that YouTube keeps exactly 30% of every displayed membership price.

This distinction matters for Indian memberships: YouTube’s public materials do not give a universal India-specific deduction schedule or a worked payout for every price tier and member platform. Without the applicable recognized revenue and the creator’s agreement, multiplying a checkout price by 70% cannot establish the exact payout.

India’s membership price tiers are not payout amounts

YouTube lists current and previous India membership price tiers. Examples in the current table include ₹59, ₹119, ₹179, ₹239, ₹299, ₹359, ₹419, ₹479, ₹599 and ₹799; the table continues to ₹39,999. The previous-pricing table includes lower-end tiers such as ₹29, ₹59, ₹89, ₹119 and ₹159. These are listed prices for memberships, not amounts creators are guaranteed to receive. YouTube Help: Pricing for channel memberships on YouTube — India.

YouTube says the updated prices began rolling out gradually in May 2025, and the price can vary based on when a viewer joined. For the amount a particular member currently pays, check the live price shown for that membership and account checkout rather than assuming every member is on the same tier schedule.

A calculation such as 70% of ₹299 would be only an illustration using a stated tier and a gross sticker price. It is not a reliable estimate of actual proceeds because the 70% share applies to revenue recognized after applicable deductions.

What can change an individual creator’s proceeds

  • Applicable deductions: YouTube describes the share as applying after local sales tax and other applicable fees. It says these can vary with region and user platform; its public materials do not specify a universal India-wide rate for each transaction.
  • The creator’s agreement: YouTube’s Partner Earnings Overview describes a 70% share of net revenue for channel memberships after a creator accepts the Commerce Product Module. It directs creators to review their specific terms in YouTube Studio under Settings → Agreements. YouTube Help: YouTube partner earnings overview.
  • An MCN arrangement: YouTube says a multi-channel network may take an additional share. A creator working with an MCN should check that network’s terms; the India billing guidance does not quantify a standard MCN deduction.
  • Payment processing: YouTube says it currently covers payment-processing fees, including credit-card fees. That statement does not remove the other applicable deductions described in its billing guidance.

How to check your own terms and earnings

  1. Review your agreement: In YouTube Studio, open Settings → Agreements and check the revenue-share terms that apply to your account.
  2. Confirm membership monetization is enabled: YouTube’s setup guidance says creators must accept the Commerce Product Module for memberships. See YouTube Help: Turn channel memberships on or off.
  3. Use your actual Revenue analytics: Check the figures associated with memberships in YouTube Studio rather than treating a simple share of the viewer’s displayed price as a payout calculation. If you belong to an MCN, confirm how its agreement affects what you receive.
  4. For a member’s current price: Check the live India price displayed for that membership and the amount at checkout. The listed tier tables alone do not determine an individual creator’s net proceeds.

India recurring-billing pauses affect continuity, not the stated percentage

YouTube says recurring memberships in India may require payment-detail verification or re-entry because of RBI eMandate requirements. It also says a membership can remain paused for at most 120 days before the membership and recurring charges are cancelled. This guidance concerns billing continuity; it does not state a different India revenue-share percentage. See YouTube Help: Billing and payment info for channel members.

Where StreamNeo fits—and where it does not

StreamNeo is a separate cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live 24/7 from uploaded videos. It does not set or change YouTube’s channel-membership revenue share, and it is not a way to calculate membership proceeds. If you also publish a continuous documentary stream, StreamNeo keeps uploaded videos looping from the cloud without requiring a home computer to stay on. Learn more at StreamNeo.

For documentary creators who need that separate workflow, StreamNeo’s first day is free with no card. Start a StreamNeo free day.
