The main cost risk is bitrate: at YouTube’s recommended 2160p60 H.264 rate, a continuous stream would transfer about 16.2 TB in a 30-day month—above Oracle’s 10 TB monthly egress allowance. The estimates below model the server sending an encoded stream to YouTube, not the cost of producing or licensing the video.
When can an Oracle VPS stream for $0?
Oracle’s Always Free allowance includes Ampere A1 capacity equivalent to up to 2 OCPUs and 12 GB of memory, with monthly limits of 1,500 OCPU-hours and 9,000 GB-hours. Oracle also includes the first 10 TB per month of outbound public internet data transfer. If your eligible instance and other usage remain within those allowances, the compute and included egress can make the server bill $0. Check eligibility, account status, and available capacity in your tenancy before relying on that outcome; Always Free A1 must be provisioned in your home region. Oracle’s Always Free documentation describes the limits and regional constraint.
For scale, a 30-day instance running continuously at the full 2 OCPUs and 12 GB would use 1,440 OCPU-hours and 8,640 GB-hours, within those stated monthly ceilings, assuming the resources qualify and there is no other billable usage. Oracle also lists 200 GB of combined Always Free boot and block volume storage. Storage beyond applicable free allowances, ineligible resources, or other paid services can change the bill.
How much data does a 24/7 stream send?
Continuous streaming uses outbound transfer for every second the VPS sends video to YouTube. A useful estimate is: bitrate in Mbps × streamed seconds ÷ 8, then convert bytes to decimal GB or TB. For a 30-day month (2,592,000 seconds), each sustained 1 Mbps transfers about 324 GB. These are calculations, not measurements of a particular broadcast; actual transfer can vary with bitrate, audio, overhead, interruptions, and billing measurement.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| YouTube-recommended H.264 video bitrate | Estimated transfer for 30 days at a continuous rate | Compared with Oracle’s 10 TB/month included egress |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p30: 10 Mbps | About 3.24 TB | Below the allowance |
| 1080p60: 17 Mbps | About 5.51 TB | Below the allowance |
| 2160p60: 50 Mbps | About 16.2 TB | Above the allowance |
The bitrate recommendations are from YouTube Help’s encoder settings. They refer to recommended video bitrates; the transfer estimates are arithmetic extrapolations for a 30-day month, before audio and other traffic. Oracle’s first 10 TB/month of outbound public internet transfer is included, but overage rates vary by origin region. Use the current Oracle networking pricing or Oracle cost estimator for your tenancy’s region rather than applying a single global overage figure.
What would paid A1 compute cost?
If you do not qualify for the relevant free allowance, Oracle’s listed A1 rates are $0.01 per OCPU-hour and $0.0015 per GB-hour of memory in all regions. At a modeled 730-hour month, the arithmetic is:

| A1 allocation | Rate-based monthly compute estimate at 730 hours |
|---|---|
| 1 OCPU and 6 GB RAM | About $13.87 |
| 2 OCPUs and 12 GB RAM | About $27.74 |
These are rate-based examples, not standard VPS package prices. They exclude storage, outbound transfer above the included allowance, and other billable services; applicable free quotas can reduce the compute charge. Oracle says paid accounts receive 3,000 OCPU-hours and 18,000 GB-hours per month of A1 usage free, shared across A1 compute deployment types. Check the current Oracle Ampere A1 pricing page and your account’s applicable allowances before estimating a bill.
Does Oracle’s free trial make the VPS free permanently?
No. Oracle’s $300 in Free Tier trial credits are valid for up to 30 days. Always Free resources remain available after the trial, but paid resources created using trial credits are reclaimed unless you upgrade. Treat the trial as temporary funding, not as a continuing credit against paid resources. See Oracle Free Tier documentation for current terms.

What can change the total or prevent setup?
- Resource eligibility and account status: A zero compute bill depends on eligible Always Free resources and remaining within the account’s applicable quotas. Review the resources and usage in OCI.
- Home-region capacity: Always Free A1 capacity is restricted to the tenancy’s home region, and a host-capacity error can prevent immediate provisioning. Availability is not guaranteed just because a free allowance exists.
- Idle-instance reclamation: Oracle says it may reclaim idle Always Free compute when CPU and network utilization are each below 20% at the 95th percentile over seven days and, for A1, memory utilization is also below 20%. Network activity from a real stream may affect that specific criterion, but it is not a guarantee against reclamation.
- Arm compatibility: A1 is Arm-based. Confirm that your operating system, streaming software, and any required dependencies support Arm before choosing it.
- Outbound transfer: Estimate total monthly transfer from the sustained bitrate, then compare it with 10 TB. Above that included amount, the applicable regional egress rate can add cost.
- Storage and other services: Check boot and block storage, IP or networking choices, and any additional OCI services against current pricing and free allowances.
What this estimate covers—and what it does not
This cost model covers the cloud server transmitting an encoded stream to YouTube. It does not price YouTube monetization, content rights, source-media storage outside OCI, viewers’ delivery of the stream, or local production equipment. A low VPS bill also does not establish that a video is authorized for streaming or eligible for monetization; check rights for every recording and YouTube’s current policies before broadcasting.
