A 24/7 YouTube stream can cost US$0 per month in OCI charges after Oracle’s trial credits expire—but only if the instance and every other resource it uses qualify for Always Free and stay within the published limits. Paid resources created with trial credits do not automatically become free: Oracle says they are reclaimed unless the account is upgraded. The estimate does not include YouTube-side costs, production equipment, or internet service.
When Oracle Cloud costs $0—and when it does not
Oracle’s Free Tier includes US$300 in credits valid for up to 30 days. After the trial, Always Free resources can remain available, subject to eligibility and quotas. Trial-funded paid resources are reclaimed unless you upgrade the account; Oracle describes a 30-day grace period for paid resources, during which you cannot create new paid resources unless you upgrade. Paid resources are reclaimed after that period. See Oracle Free Tier documentation and Oracle’s promotion-expiry guidance for current account terms.
So the practical answer is conditional, not a blanket promise: if the stream host and related OCI resources fit Always Free, the documented OCI service charge can be US$0 per month. If you need resources beyond those limits, or retain paid resources by upgrading, your actual bill depends on the configuration. The published figures below do not establish a price for a paid setup.
What Always Free includes for a stream host
Oracle’s current Always Free resource documentation, accessed in 2026, lists the following relevant limits:
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Resource | Published Always Free allowance | What it means for a 24/7 stream |
|---|---|---|
| Ampere A1 compute | 2 OCPUs and 12 GB memory total, allocatable across one or two A1 instances | The stream host must fit within the total allowance and be created in the tenancy’s home region. |
| AMD E2.1.Micro compute | Up to two instances | These instances are much smaller than the A1 allocation; the allowance alone does not show that a particular source format or workload will run adequately. |
| Outbound data transfer | 10 TB per month | Traffic sent from OCI to YouTube counts toward the tenancy’s outbound transfer use. |
| Object Storage after trial expiry | 20 GB combined across Standard, Infrequent Access, and Archive tiers, plus 50,000 API requests per month | Stored recordings and other objects can exceed the post-trial allowance even if the stream itself fits. |
These are entitlement limits, not a guarantee that a given machine can encode or relay a particular video successfully. Oracle’s Always Free resources page describes the current allocations and eligibility conditions.
Will the instance keep running after the trial?
An eligible Always Free instance may continue after the trial, but paid resources funded by trial credits are not converted into free resources. Oracle also says free accounts remain active when used within the past 60 days. Check the instance’s status and your tenancy’s limits in the OCI Console rather than assuming that every trial configuration will persist.

Pay particular attention to Ampere A1 usage before the trial ends. Oracle says Always Free A1 capacity above the stated allowance must be reduced to continue as an Always Free user; excess instances can be disabled and later deleted. Oracle also reserves the right to reclaim idle Always Free compute instances if CPU, network, and—on A1—memory utilization stay below its stated thresholds over a seven-day period. A stream may create activity, but intended use alone does not guarantee that a resource will be exempt from this policy. See Oracle’s idle-resource reclamation policy.
Estimate outbound data for a continuous stream
Use the actual outbound bitrate to estimate data transfer, then account for protocol overhead and all other traffic in the tenancy. For illustration only, a steady 6 Mbps stream sent continuously for 30 days transfers about 1.94 decimal TB before overhead:

6,000,000 bits/second Ă— 2,592,000 seconds Ă· 8 = 1,944,000,000,000 bytes
The 6 Mbps figure is an arithmetic example, not an official YouTube recommendation or a measured result. Oracle’s documented 10 TB monthly outbound allowance is a tenancy limit shared with other outbound traffic, not a per-stream allowance. The estimate therefore cannot establish your exact usage without the stream’s actual bitrate, operating time, and other tenancy traffic.

Account for recordings and other stored files
A relay that reads a source and forwards it live may not need to keep recordings in OCI. If you store video in Object Storage, Oracle lists 20 GB combined across its Standard, Infrequent Access, and Archive tiers after trial expiry, along with 50,000 API requests per month. Oracle warns that objects may be deleted if usage exceeds the post-trial limit at expiry. Remove or move files that exceed the allowance before the trial ends, or include any paid storage in your cost planning. See Oracle’s Free Tier documentation.
Check your setup before credits expire
- Identify what the stream uses. In the OCI Console, review the compute instances, storage, and other resources associated with the stream. Separate Always Free resources from anything provisioned with trial credits.
- Verify compute eligibility. Confirm the instance is in the tenancy’s home region and that total A1 allocation does not exceed 2 OCPUs and 12 GB memory. Reduce any excess A1 capacity before trial expiry.
- Review stored data. Check Object Storage usage against the 20 GB combined post-trial allowance and move or delete excess objects before expiry.
- Estimate monthly egress. Multiply the actual steady bitrate in bits per second by the expected streaming seconds, divide by eight, and add overhead and other tenancy traffic. Compare the result with the 10 TB monthly outbound allowance.
- Monitor after the transition. Check the instance status and tenancy limits in the OCI Console. Do not treat intended continuous use as a guarantee against idle-resource reclamation.
Or let it run in the cloud
