There is no single monthly price: Google Cloud cost depends on the VM, region, disk and data transfer, while a mini PC’s electricity cost depends on its measured power draw and your local electricity rate. Compare both over the same runtime, then account separately for hardware, internet service and reliability.
Compare the same month and the same stream
Use 730 hours as a normalized 30.4-day month, not as the length of every calendar month. Specify the stream’s codec, resolution and frame rate, since those settings affect what the encoder must handle. Also say whether your totals include persistent disk, network egress, hardware purchase and internet service.
YouTube transcodes incoming live streams for playback formats, so the hosting computer sends the configured ingest stream; it does not have to encode a separate version for every viewer. YouTube’s guidance says: “YouTube will automatically transcode your live stream to create many different output formats so that all of your viewers across many devices and networks can watch.” (YouTube live encoder settings)

Calculate compute separately
Choose the actual Compute Engine machine type and region, then multiply its current hourly compute rate by 730. Google publishes machine-family prices in USD and notes that rates vary by region; check the Compute Engine pricing page for the configuration you plan to use. E2 is described as a cost-optimized general-purpose machine series in Google’s machine-family documentation, but that does not establish that any particular small VM can sustain your chosen stream encode.

Add the other billable resources
Compute alone is not an all-in cloud bill. Identify the persistent disk, expected outbound transfer and any other resources needed for your setup, and add their applicable charges. Report the VM compute estimate separately from the total. Rates, regions and billing details can change, so confirm them for your configuration before relying on a monthly estimate.

Measure the system you will actually run
There is no established representative wattage for a mini PC continuously encoding a YouTube stream. Consumption varies by model and workload; do not use a generic “typical” draw as if it applied to all mini PCs. Measure wall power while running the intended encoder settings over a representative period, for example with a plug-in power meter.

Use your local electricity rate
Calculate: average watts ÷ 1,000 × 730 hours × your electricity price per kWh. For arithmetic illustrations only, 10 W sustained for 730 hours equals 7.3 kWh; 20 W equals 14.6 kWh. These are hypothetical inputs, not measured or typical mini-PC consumption. Keep the mini PC’s purchase price and internet service separate from recurring electricity cost; if you want a total-ownership comparison, state any hardware amortization period explicitly.
Check that the setup can sustain the stream
Match the encoder to the ingest settings
YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265 (HEVC) and AV1 options, supports frame rates up to 60 fps, and recommends constant-bitrate encoding. Its H.264 recommendations include 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 6 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. Recommendations depend on codec, resolution and frame rate, so use the current YouTube encoder settings rather than assuming a low-cost VM can handle every workload. Test the configured stream and monitor stream health.

Include upload capacity and connection stability
Run a speed test and leave upload capacity above the stream bitrate. YouTube states that 20% upload headroom is recommended and warns that network disruption can break a stream. A cloud VM price does not resolve an inadequate local connection if the stream is being sent from home; assess the actual network path for the configuration you choose. (YouTube streaming tips)

Do not publish a single “winner” without naming the VM region and type, mini-PC model and measured draw, stream settings, local electricity rate, and which costs are included. The two methods answer different questions: the cloud estimate prices rented compute and resources; the mini-PC estimate prices electricity and leaves the hardware purchase visible.
