The most specific widely reported figure is $440,000 per episode for each primary cast member, reported in 2011 as their rate before a new contract. The terms of that two-year agreement were not disclosed, so the figure is historical—not a confirmed current salary. No source cited here establishes what the principal cast earns in 2026.

What is the reported pay for The Simpsons voice actors?

The Los Angeles Times reported in October 2011 that the primary cast made $440,000 per episode before negotiating a new two-year contract. The paper attributed the figure to people close to the negotiations who were not authorized to speak publicly. It also reported that the new contract terms were not disclosed. Read the 2011 Los Angeles Times report.

That distinction matters: $440,000 was a reported pre-renewal rate, not a publicly confirmed figure under the new agreement. It should not be presented as what the actors earn now.

How have reported rates changed over time?

News reports from separate contract negotiations give a historical picture, but they are not a continuous or officially disclosed salary schedule.

Year and source Reported amount What the figure describes
2004, Los Angeles Times $125,000 per actor per episode The six actors’ reported pay before a contract dispute. It was not the settlement amount. Source.
2008, The Guardian Nearly $400,000 per episode A reported settlement rate for top voice actors, based on US media reports; the figure was not described as an officially disclosed contract term. Source.
2011, Los Angeles Times $440,000 per primary cast member per episode The reported rate before a new two-year agreement, whose terms were not disclosed. Source.

The dates and qualifications are essential. The reports concern different negotiation periods and do not prove that every actor received identical final terms. Multiplying one of these old per-episode figures by a later season’s episode count would not establish a cast member’s current annual income.

What the 2011 negotiations reveal—and what they do not

Contemporaneous reporting described competing proposals, not the final terms. TheWrap reported that the six actors were being asked to accept a cut from a reported $440,000 to $250,000 per episode, while the actors had offered to take $300,000 in exchange for back-end payments. TheWrap also cited a study commissioned by the actors that estimated cumulative show revenue at $3.95 billion and production costs at about $3.07 billion. Those were study estimates, not audited company disclosures or individual earnings. Read TheWrap’s account.

Fox’s statement during the negotiations, reproduced by TheWrap, was: “We cannot produce future seasons under its current financial model.” It is a statement about that dispute, not evidence about the show’s present finances. The final terms remained undisclosed in the cited reporting.

Do residuals add to the actors’ pay?

Residuals are separate from an episode salary, but the available union-contract information does not establish how much any Simpsons cast member receives. SAG-AFTRA’s 2020 television animation agreements summary describes a residual formula that distributes 6% of distributor gross receipts among cast, using factors that include how long each actor worked on a program and how much they were paid. The summary is general contract context; it does not disclose the actors’ individual terms or their residual earnings. The 6% figure cannot be applied to the show’s revenue to calculate an actor’s pay. See SAG-AFTRA’s 2020 summary.

What can be said about current salaries?

The cited reports do not establish the principal cast’s current individual salaries or a reliable cast-member-by-cast-member ranking. The strongest answer is therefore a dated one: the best-specified widely reported rate is $440,000 per episode before the 2011 renewal, while the new contract’s terms were not made public in the cited account. That historical figure cannot answer what any actor earns under a current contract.
