MrBeast became YouTube’s most-subscribed channel overall in June 2024, when he passed T-Series. His victory came after he had already overtaken PewDiePie as the platform’s leading individual creator in 2022. After the 2024 milestone, MrBeast called it an “avenging” of PewDiePie—a playful callback to the earlier contest, not evidence that PewDiePie sought revenge.
When did MrBeast become YouTube’s most-subscribed channel?
MrBeast, the creator name of Jimmy Donaldson, took the overall channel lead in June 2024. YouTube’s retrospective dates the milestone to that month; contemporaneous reporting specifies June 1, when his channel passed Indian music label T-Series. YouTube’s retrospective later confirmed the chronology.
The record category matters: the overall ranking includes channels of every kind, not just individual creators. T-Series held that wider lead until MrBeast overtook it.
How did MrBeast’s earlier record differ?
In November 2022, MrBeast passed PewDiePie (Felix Kjellberg) to become YouTube’s most-subscribed individual creator. That did not make him the most-subscribed channel overall; T-Series still held that record. Guinness World Records verified MrBeast at 112,193,139 subscribers on November 17, 2022, for its individual-male record. Guinness World Records’ record page documents the category and verification.

What did MrBeast mean by “avenged” PewDiePie?
On June 2, 2024, after passing T-Series, MrBeast posted: “After 6 years we have finally avenged Pewdiepie.” 9to5Google reproduced the post. The line refers to the earlier contest: MrBeast had backed PewDiePie during his rivalry with T-Series, and his own eventual takeover of T-Series made for a joking reversal of that story.

“Avenged” is MrBeast’s framing of the sequence. The available reporting does not establish that PewDiePie asked for revenge or endorsed that description. In August 2022, before MrBeast passed him, PewDiePie was quoted by ABC News saying of MrBeast: “He definitely deserves it. I hope he does it.” That comment concerned the individual-creator record, not the later T-Series takeover. ABC News provides that context.

YouTube’s June 2026 retrospective confirms the 2022 and 2024 record transitions and reports the later 500-million milestone. YouTube’s blog is the primary source for that chronology. Guinness’s 449-million figure is a dated record entry, not a real-time total; its page explicitly cautions that updates may lag. Check Guinness’s record page for its stated date and caveat.
