Matty Healy and Gabbriette Bechtel were publicly linked in September 2023, announced their engagement in June 2024 and, according to a July 2026 report citing their representatives, married in Los Angeles that month. An anonymous source described Healy as having “quickly fell in love” with Bechtel and said the relationship was serious from the start; that characterization was not a statement from either partner.
When were Matty Healy and Gabbriette Bechtel first linked?
The pair were first publicly linked after being seen together in New York in September 2023. Glamour dates the sighting to September 5. A public sighting establishes when they were seen together, not the private start of their relationship.
What have they said about how they met?
In an April 2024 interview with HommeGirls, as reproduced by Glamour, Bechtel said they had tried to meet for four years and met when she went to see The 1975 perform. She described what followed this way: “He came to LA and we’ve been in love ever since.” That is Bechtel’s account of the relationship, rather than an independently verified date for when it began.
The separate description that Healy “quickly fell in love” and that the relationship was serious from day one came from an unnamed source. It should be treated as anonymous-source characterization, not a confirmed quote or account from Healy or Bechtel.

When did Matty Healy and Gabbriette Bechtel get engaged?
The engagement became public on June 12, 2024. Bechtel posted a photo of a black diamond ring with a message referencing The 1975 and Charli XCX’s Brat; Healy reposted it. His mother, Denise Welch, discussed the engagement on ITV’s Loose Women. The Associated Press quoted Welch saying, “I’ve obviously known for a few weeks that Matty got engaged,” and later, “Instagram official!” AP noted at the time that representatives had not immediately returned its request for comment.
Are Matty Healy and Gabbriette Bechtel married?
Yes, according to RTÉ’s report published July 19, 2026: the couple married in a private Los Angeles ceremony on July 18. RTÉ attributed the news to a statement from their representatives. The report’s page was unavailable for direct review, so the marriage update is best stated with that attribution. The older description of Bechtel as Healy’s fiancée is therefore out of date.
