The available guides describe sexual content and give examples from individual episodes, but none provides a consistent count across the series.
Why there is no dependable total
A count depends on what qualifies as a “sex scene.” An implied or fade-to-black encounter, brief sexual activity, nudity without sex, and sexual violence are distinct categories. Sources that describe these forms of content do not necessarily count them the same way.
Common Sense Media characterizes the series as frequently depicting nudity and sexual acts, including incest, orgies, and sexual violence, but does not give a scene total. Its series review is a qualitative content guide, not a scene-by-scene inventory.
What episode guides can tell you
IMDb’s parental guides include descriptions for particular episodes, with examples from “The North Remembers,” “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken,” “The Laws of Gods and Men,” “Breaker of Chains,” and “Second Sons.” The guides are user-editable, so entries can vary or be incomplete; examples from a handful of episodes cannot establish a series-wide total.

#1 Best Overall
If you are checking a specific episode, an episode-level content guide is more useful than an unsupported overall number. Treat it as a reference rather than a guaranteed exhaustive inventory.
How a valid count would need to be defined
A defensible count would require an episode-by-episode review using a consistent rule. At minimum, it would need to separate explicit sexual activity, implied or fade-to-black sex, nudity without sexual activity, and sexual violence. It would also need to state whether a “scene” means one continuous sequence, each cut between locations, or each discrete encounter—and whether the tally counts scenes or episodes containing them.

Sexual violence should not be folded into an ordinary sex-scene total without clearly identifying that classification. The categories describe different kinds of content and matter differently to viewers deciding what to watch.

Game of Thrones has 73 episodes, according to TIME’s 2019 binge-watching guide. That is the number of episodes, not a count of sexual scenes; the guide does not provide a series-wide tally.
