Rhaenyra Targaryen has six children if her stillborn daughter Visenya is counted; five are living after season 1. Her first three sons are legally Laenor Velaryon’s, though the show strongly implies Harwin Strong is their biological father. Daemon is the father of her three children born later: Aegon, Viserys, and Visenya.
How many children does Rhaenyra have?
The count is six children in all, including Visenya, who is stillborn during the season 1 finale. That leaves five living children at that point in the story. The series is based on George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, and HBO’s season 1 overview describes the family events that bring Rhaenyra’s children into the story: HBO’s House of the Dragon series page.
Who is the father of Rhaenyra’s children?
It depends on which children you mean, and whether you mean their legal father or their biological father.
Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey
Laenor Velaryon is the boys’ legal and publicly recognized father. The show strongly implies that Harwin Strong is their biological father, a parentage also described in a secondary character reference. HBO’s episode 6 summary notes Alicent’s speculation about Rhaenyra’s children, underscoring that their parentage is contested within the story. The Warner Bros. Discovery character description identifies Jacaerys as Rhaenyra’s eldest son.

What happens to Rhaenyra’s children?
| Child | Father | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Jacaerys (“Jace”) Velaryon | Legally Laenor; biologically Harwin, as implied by the show and described by a secondary character reference | A June 2026 report by Meristation/AS says Jacaerys dies during season 3 and Joffrey becomes Rhaenyra’s next heir. This is secondary reporting, not an official HBO episode summary. Read the report. |

| Aegon (“the Younger”) Targaryen | Daemon | During season 2 events, he is sent away with Rhaena and Joffrey, according to a secondary character reference. |
| Viserys Targaryen | Daemon | During season 2 events, he is sent away with Rhaena and Joffrey, according to a secondary character reference. |
| Visenya Targaryen | Daemon | She is stillborn during the season 1 finale. |
What to keep in mind about the children’s fates
- Lucerys’s death is part of season 1’s story; Jacaerys’s reported death is a separate, season 3 update.
- The Jacaerys update comes from secondary reporting, not an official HBO episode summary. It should not be taken as a complete account of every child’s latest fate.
- Parentage has two meanings here: Laenor is the first three boys’ legal father, while Harwin is implied to be their biological father.
