Miranda said her experience helped her understand and shape Lulu. The production also hired her as a consultant. She described helping explain club language and behavior, drawing on her own experience rather than claiming to represent every dancer or sex worker.
What led her to work at the club?
Miranda said she had wanted to act since childhood. Her parents were film professors, and she took free acting classes before setting her sights on Rutgers University’s BFA program. She said the cost made Rutgers unaffordable, so she enrolled at a local university instead.

Friends suggested she work at a Brooklyn club to help pay for living expenses and acting classes. The job brought her into contact with Baker and Quan, creating an unexpected route to an audition. Miranda called the opportunity “dumb luck” and said, “I really do feel like Cinderella and that this is a fairy tale just because of the sheer improbability and it just feels like dumb luck and I’m so grateful.”
How did the film intersect with her family life?
Miranda said she was juggling club shifts and film work with visits to her ill mother in the hospital. She credited Anora with helping her and her mother reconcile, but said her mother died before she could see the film. These are personal details Miranda shared in the interview; they do not need embellishment to convey their significance.
Who plays Lulu, and who plays Anora?
Miranda plays Lulu, one of Anora’s friends and fellow workers. Madison plays Anora, the film’s title character. Madison’s awards and remarks about sex workers belong to her story, not Miranda’s: at the BAFTAs, Madison said sex workers “deserve respect and human decency,” as reported in the People profile.

The interview appeared ahead of the March 2, 2025 Oscars ceremony. Miranda said she was preparing to attend and that the film’s attention at Cannes and Toronto had made her more confident she could build an acting career. Those were her expectations at the time, not a report of the ceremony’s outcome.
