Laura Spencer described her time on The Big Bang Theory in warmly positive terms. In interviews published November 6, 2014, she said the cast made her feel welcome, she loved exploring Emily Sweeney’s quirky side, and performing for the show’s live audience was a highlight. She also said a part she auditioned for as a one-episode role had become “such an amazing experience.”
Joining the cast felt welcoming, not intimidating
Spencer joined an established ensemble, but said the cast did not make her feel like an outsider. In a November 6, 2014 interview with My Take on TV, she recalled that Mayim Bialik and Kunal Nayyar were calm around her and that the welcome helped her feel she belonged. “It was just enough a welcoming from everybody that gave me the confidence to feel like I belonged there,” she said.
She described that sense of connection as lasting beyond her uncertain future on the series: “That’s the vibe I feel no matter what my future is on the show, that I will forever be considered part of the BIG BANG family.” My Take on TV, November 6, 2014.
She enjoyed discovering Emily Sweeney’s darker, quirkier side
Spencer said she was having a “blast” playing Emily as the character’s unusual and darker traits emerged. She liked that the writing let Emily’s personality come through in her interactions with the other characters, rather than defining her all at once. In a November 6, 2014 interview, she also said she hoped Emily and Penny would become friends and that Emily would continue spending time with the group in the living room. That was Spencer’s wish at the time, not a claim about what later episodes would do.

TheWrap’s November 6, 2014 interview discusses Emily’s character, her relationship with Penny, and Spencer’s experience working on the show.
The live audience was a particular joy
Spencer singled out the audience’s response as one of her favorite parts of the job. She remembered walking into the living room during her first episode back and hearing applause. “I’ll never forget it,” she told TheWrap on November 6, 2014, describing the moment as the audience saw Emily enter the set. In the same interview, she called the fans’ support through taping “a real joy to see and experience.”

She made the same point to Seat42F, saying, “Probably my favorite part of the show is doing scenes before a live audience and getting to see how intensely devoted the fans are to the show.” Seat42F, November 6, 2014.
The role grew beyond the one episode she expected
When Spencer auditioned, she understood that she would appear in one episode. By the time she spoke with Seat42F in November 2014, the experience had grown into something more substantial. “It’s turned into such an amazing experience,” she said, adding that it was “a dream come true.” Her account captures how she felt while the role was developing; it should not be read as a retrospective statement about every part of her later career or private experience.

At the time, she was also working on Bones. TheWrap reported that she appreciated the production teams’ cooperation in managing the two schedules; her comments did not present the scheduling as a source of conflict.
