Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band through its fictional-band concept and marching-band presentation. That connection is Rob Sheffield’s critical reading in Rolling Stone Canada, not a direct statement from Jimin. Sheffield’s larger point is about artistic reinvention: the Beatles reference gives Jimin a frame for experimentation, not a template to copy.
What Beatles connection does “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band” make?
Sheffield identifies the Beatles’ 1967 album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band as the key reference. The song’s fictional-band theme and its music video’s Sgt. Pepper homage make the comparison specific: it is about the idea of adopting a band identity and staging a musical world, rather than a claim that the track reproduces a particular Beatles song.
In Sheffield’s interpretation, that reference supports a story about change and self-discovery. An artist can step into a new persona to explore new possibilities; the connection is therefore one of experimentation and progression, not imitation. His essay is criticism, not an interview, and it does not present the comparison as a quotation or explanation from Jimin. Read Rob Sheffield’s essay in Rolling Stone Canada.
Where the song fits on MUSE
MUSE is Jimin’s second solo album. BIGHIT MUSIC says Jimin led its overall production and describes the seven-track album as a search for genuine love, including moments of losing one’s way. The label’s official sequence is:
#1 Best Overall
- Jimin of global K-Pop group BTS is back with a new album titled 'MUSE' - a follow up to his highly successful album 'FACE
- “Rebirth (Intro)”
- “Interlude : Showtime”
- “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band (feat. Loco)”
- “Slow Dance (feat. Sofia Carson)”
- “Be Mine”
- “Who”
- “Closer Than This”
BIGHIT MUSIC says the love theme begins with “Rebirth (Intro)” and reaches its climax in “Who,” which the label identifies as the main track. That album arc places the Beatles-associated song within a broader concept about searching for love, rather than making the whole record a Beatles homage. See BIGHIT MUSIC’s official album description and track list.
Apple Music lists the release date as July 19, 2024, and gives the album a duration of 19 minutes across seven songs. Its editorial description also calls “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band” Sgt. Pepper-inspired, noting marching-band percussion and a rap from Loco. Apple’s description contrasts MUSE’s search for love with the darker presentation of Jimin’s earlier album FACE; that is platform editorial framing, not an official genre label or a claim of critical consensus.
