Jensen Ackles and Danneel Harris were friends before they began dating, and their connection is closely associated with the 2007 romantic comedy Ten Inch Hero, in which they co-starred. Accounts differ on whether the film was where they first met or where an earlier acquaintance grew into a closer relationship. Danneel later recalled the drives to filming they shared—and the conversations about their futures and careers.
How Jensen Ackles and Danneel Harris first crossed paths
The precise first-meeting story is not settled by the available accounts. A retrospective timeline from Us Weekly says their paths crossed in the early 2000s while they were both working in television. By contrast, actor Matt Barr, their co-star in Ten Inch Hero, later recalled that the film was when they met. That recollection identifies the movie as a defining setting for their story, but it does not establish that they had never encountered each other before.
What contemporaneous reporting makes clear is that they were friends before dating. When TV Guide reported their engagement on November 9, 2009, it described them as friends for nearly a decade and noted their shared work in Ten Inch Hero. The safest distinction is between an earlier acquaintance and the period when they grew closer.
How Ten Inch Hero brought them closer
A 2007 romantic comedy, Ten Inch Hero put Ackles and Harris in the same cast. Harris later described a more personal part of the experience: on drives back and forth to filming, the two talked about their futures and careers. The account appears in a fan-produced transcript of a March 11, 2023 convention panel, so it is best treated as her recollection as transcribed there, rather than as a verified recording or a contemporaneous account.

The same transcript attributes to Harris the recollection that a kiss at the end of the film was not scripted. That detail is a glimpse of how the movie has remained part of their shared story; it does not, by itself, establish when their friendship turned into a relationship.
Barr also looked back on the film in a 2021 interview, saying, “That’s when they met.” His brief retrospective account and Harris’s later recollection emphasize the importance of the movie, while the earlier friendship reporting leaves room for them to have known each other before filming.

From dating to marriage
In November 2009, the couple announced their engagement. TV Guide reported that they had been dating for three years, placing the start of their romantic relationship around 2006. That dating timeline is distinct from the longer period of friendship the same report described.
They married in Dallas on May 15, 2010, according to TV Guide’s wedding report the following day. Their public timeline therefore moves from friendship, through shared work and dating, to engagement and marriage—not a sudden romance that began with their first encounter.

Why accounts say they “met” at different times
“When did they meet?” can mean either the first time they crossed paths or the moment their relationship began to deepen. The Us Weekly timeline points to an earlier television-world acquaintance; Barr associates their meeting with Ten Inch Hero; and TV Guide’s 2009 report establishes a long friendship without pinning down a single first-meeting date. Harris’s panel recollection adds what she remembers about the time they spent talking on the way to filming. Taken together, these accounts support the film as a central part of their connection, not a definitive date for their first-ever encounter.
