He described them as the two children around him who were indifferent to the show, and took that response as a reassuring sign: they saw him as their parent, not just as a television host.
What Jeff Probst said about his children and Survivor
In an interview with GQ interviewer Clay Skipper, Probst responded to the idea that his children might ask who won the show. He said, “Because if you had children you would know this fact: no child cares what their parents do at all.” He then made the point personal: “But the two who don’t care? Mine.” GQ says the interview was edited and condensed.
Probst’s words support a specific conclusion: he said his children were not interested in his job on Survivor. They do not establish that his children disliked the program, never watched it, or felt nothing about it. The interview does not give a fuller account of their viewing habits or private feelings.
Why Probst saw their indifference as a good sign
Probst interpreted his children’s response as evidence that they related to him primarily as a parent. As he put it, “I think that means you’re being a good parent, if they see you as a parent, and not as your job.” That is his reading of the anecdote, rather than a broader claim about how children behave.

His comments about young Survivor viewers are a separate point
In a 2017 interview, Probst said he was excited by the number of children watching Survivor and described the show as made for families. Those remarks concern the program’s audience; they do not contradict what he later said about his own children’s interest in his work. A 2023 GQ profile likewise describes the show’s appeal across generations and Probst’s role as host and executive producer, but it is not the source for his personal anecdote about his children.

- What Probst reported: His children did not care about his Survivor work.
- How he understood it: He felt they saw him as their father rather than as his television role.
- What remains unknown: The interview does not explain whether they watched the show, how they felt about it, or how their views may have changed over time.
The Television Academy archive also lists a segment in which Probst discusses bringing his family to a filming location, but its listing does not provide a transcript of what he said there. It cannot fill in details about his children’s feelings toward the show.
