Jade Cargill says she met former MLB All-Star Brandon Phillips at a Starbucks in 2015, after she left a meeting with their manager, who was also Phillips’s childhood friend. She says she waited four months before agreeing to give him her number. Later coverage calls Phillips her husband, but the sources available do not establish when they married.
How Jade Cargill and Brandon Phillips met
Cargill recounted the meeting in a first-person essay published by The Players’ Tribune on May 26, 2022. She wrote, “I met Brandon when I was 22 years old, in 2015.” At the time, she was modeling and living in France.
According to Cargill, she was leaving a Starbucks meeting with her manager when Phillips arrived to meet with the same person. The manager was a childhood friend of Phillips. Phillips asked who Cargill was after she left. It was an unexpected encounter, not a planned date.
Why it took four months for them to start dating
Cargill says she was reluctant to date an athlete and was living in France for modeling. Phillips kept trying to get to know her, and, after four months, she agreed to give him her number and see where things went. That timeline comes from her own recollection; the essay does not provide a more specific date for when they began dating.

What Cargill has said about Phillips’s support
In the same essay, Cargill described Phillips as a steadying presence, writing, “He’s the person that calms me down, I guess you could say.” She also recalled that he initially worried she might get hurt when she considered wrestling, then made room for her training schedule and cared for their daughter while she trained. She says they took turns so he could train as well. These are Cargill’s personal recollections.
Are Jade Cargill and Brandon Phillips married?
The public descriptions differ by date. An Associated Press profile published September 6, 2023 said they were not married at that time, while noting that they referred to each other as spouses. A USA Insider profile published in late 2025 calls Phillips Cargill’s husband.

Neither of those reports gives a wedding date or describes a ceremony. The careful answer is that later coverage identifies Phillips as Cargill’s husband, but the reviewed public accounts do not establish when they married.

USA Insider reports that their daughter, Bailey Quinn, was born in April 2017. The outlet also reports that the couple founded the Texas Smoke women’s softball team in 2022. The team won the Women’s Professional Fastpitch championship in its first season, according to the AP’s 2023 profile.

USA Insider’s late-2025 profile says the team later moved to Atlanta and was rebranded as Atlanta Smoke. That later team coverage provides context for their shared work, but does not add a wedding date.
