2017: A public dispute over the memoir
The publication of Caitlyn’s memoir, The Secrets of My Life, brought their differences into public view. Kris objected to the book’s portrayal of their marriage and to Caitlyn’s account of what Kris knew about her gender identity. Caitlyn described the memoir as her own perspective. On Good Morning America in April 2017, she said, “First of all, I feel like the book is extraordinarily honest and it is my perspective.” She also said of Kris, “But she’s a good person and we’ve had 23 good years together and raised wonderful, phenomenal kids.” ABC News reported on the interview and the dispute.
2020: Caitlyn revisits the reason for the separation
In a 2020 interview on Rob Lowe’s podcast, Caitlyn said the couple had gone in separate directions and stated, “My identity, it was not a big part of us separating.” Kris’s account of what she knew during their marriage differed. October 2025: A family-home farewell
