NBC’s October 2024 plan placed Jackson and Tom Llamas at the Big Board to interpret numbers through the night, after they opened the evening with exit-poll insights and early analysis. Jackson also recognized the human strain of waiting for an uncertain result: “The lack of certainty in this election can ‘feel really heavy for people,’” she said, while adding that clarity would come.
Jackson’s job: connect early analysis with live results
NBC assigned Jackson and Tom Llamas to begin coverage earlier in the evening, using the first wave of exit polls and early analysis to orient viewers. At 6:30 p.m. ET, Lester Holt and Savannah Guthrie were scheduled to lead rolling primetime coverage with Meet the Press moderator Kristen Welker, Jackson, and Llamas. Jackson and Llamas were to remain at the Big Board through the night, breaking down numbers and results as they developed. These were planned roles in NBC’s announcement, not a claim that Jackson would personally anchor the entire broadcast.
In a November 1, 2024, Vanity Fair report by Natalie Korach, Jackson described the unusual timing of the operation: “We are doing something that we haven’t done since I’ve been at NBC—which is start election night on Election Day.” The plan reflected a longer stretch of coverage than a conventional primetime broadcast, with Jackson helping translate evolving results for viewers.
What NBC planned, and how long it would run
NBCUniversal announced its “Decision 2024” operation on October 30, 2024. It said coverage would start Tuesday, November 5, across NBC, NBC News NOW, and NBCNews.com. The local broadcast and streaming schedules were distinct:

The duration figures were published by NBCUniversal as part of its 2024 plan. They describe the announced schedules, not independently audited totals or the number of hours Jackson herself was on air. In Korach’s report, Llamas said, “If it takes 24 hours, 48 hours, we’re going to keep going.”
How the wider operation supported the results coverage
The Big Board was one part of a broader reporting and information effort. NBC said more than 100 journalists would contribute from around the country, including more than 30 County Captains reporting from closely contested regions. NBC also planned live results pages and a live blog on NBCNews.com and its app, alongside field reporting and social coverage. The staffing figures were NBC’s own announced totals.

NBC described Vote Watch as a network-wide desk for identifying and debunking misinformation, as well as reporting on voting irregularities and potential legal challenges. That operation complemented the on-the-ground reporting by addressing questions about the integrity and administration of the vote while results were still developing.
Where NBC planned to show election coverage
- Local NBC stations: the announced 24-hour continuous broadcast beginning at 5 p.m. ET.
- NBC News NOW: more than 40 hours of live programming, starting at 7 a.m. ET and continuing late into Wednesday.
- NBCNews.com and the NBC News app: live results pages and a live blog.
- Peacock: a planned three-view Election Multiview debut at 6 p.m. ET, combining NBC News NOW, a “Kornacki Cam” focused on Steve Kornacki’s data analysis, and a balance-of-power results map.
These were distribution plans announced for the 2024 election. They do not establish whether a replay of that coverage is available now.

Jackson on the weight of waiting for a result
Jackson’s remarks addressed more than the mechanics of a long broadcast. In Korach’s Vanity Fair report, she said uncertainty could “feel really heavy for people,” then reassured viewers: “At some point,” there would be clarity. The framing matters in a results broadcast: the presenters had to explain what was known without implying that early returns settled a contest before the count did.
Janelle Rodriguez, NBC News executive vice president of programming, described the preparation in the same report: “We put a ton of effort and energy into making sure that we were able to go wall to wall at a very high level for our audience.”
