The often-repeated claim that Danielle Staub had a $3.5 million net worth around her 2007 divorce is an entertainment-media estimate, not a verified accounting. The clearest contemporaneous financial evidence comes from 2012: an Associated Press report on bankruptcy court papers said Staub listed assets and liabilities in the same broad range, $500,001 to $1 million. Those records show serious financial distress, but they do not establish exactly how her finances changed or what caused it.
What does the $3.5 million figure mean?
A 2021 Showbiz Cheat Sheet retrospective associated a $3.5 million net-worth estimate with Staub’s 2007 divorce from Thomas Staub. The article does not provide primary documentation or explain whether the figure represents net worth, assets, a settlement, or another calculation. A 2024 Reality Tea article republished by Yahoo repeats celebrity-finance estimates but likewise does not supply a primary financial record.
That distinction matters: the $3.5 million figure should be described as a reported estimate, not as a confirmed fortune that Staub definitively possessed and then lost.
What bankruptcy papers reported in 2012
In a June 6, 2012 report, the Associated Press, republished by New Jersey 101.5, said court papers filed in federal court in Newark placed Staub’s assets between $500,001 and $1 million. Her liabilities were reported in that same range. The AP report said creditors included the Internal Revenue Service, the State of New Jersey, and nine law firms, citing The Record for that list.

These are filing-era ranges, not exact totals or a final net-worth calculation. They show that Staub was seeking Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection and faced substantial liabilities; they do not, by themselves, account for the path from the reported 2007 estimate to the 2012 filing.
A timeline of the public financial picture
2007: a retrospective estimate tied to the divorce period
The $3.5 million figure appears in later entertainment coverage as an estimate associated with Staub’s divorce from Thomas Staub. The available account does not document a divorce settlement or independently calculated valuation, so it cannot establish what she owned or received at the time.
2010: departure from RHONJ
The AP’s 2012 report says Staub left Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New Jersey in 2010. That marks a change in her public television work; the available reporting does not quantify her compensation from the show or show how her departure affected her finances.
2012: Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing
The bankruptcy filing is the strongest contemporaneous evidence in this public timeline. Its reported asset and liability ranges both fall between $500,001 and $1 million. The court-paper reporting establishes financial distress at that point, but not a precise loss amount or a full explanation of the debts.
Later years: public work and shifting estimates
Showbiz Cheat Sheet describes later reality-television appearances, a short club-dancing engagement, and housing developments. These reported events do not amount to a complete income or asset history, and they do not establish a causal explanation for the bankruptcy. Celebrity-finance figures also vary: Celebrity Net Worth displayed an estimate of $200,000 when accessed on October 8, 2026. The site says its estimates are based on public sources and, when available, private tips and feedback, and may not be accurate. That number is a publisher estimate, not a verified current financial statement.

- Supported: Retrospective entertainment coverage has reported a $3.5 million estimate associated with Staub’s 2007 divorce period.
- Supported: AP reporting on 2012 federal court papers put both her assets and liabilities in the $500,001-to-$1-million range, and reported creditors included the IRS, New Jersey, and nine law firms.
- Not established: A verified starting net worth, a precise amount lost, a complete account of the intervening finances, or a single cause for the change.
- Not established: Staub’s current net worth as a confirmed figure. Celebrity-net-worth pages publish estimates rather than audited statements.
So the defensible account is narrower than the headline claim: a $3.5 million estimate has circulated, and bankruptcy papers reported in 2012 showed liabilities in a substantial range. The public sources cited here do not prove that she had exactly $3.5 million, lost that specific sum, or lost it for any one reason.
