The Los Angeles Times also reported that the San Francisco 49ers and NBA 2K cut ties. These were different kinds of actions, and the reports followed allegations about messages involving a minor—not a public adjudication of the underlying conduct.
What led to the partner responses?
Dr Disrespect is the online name of streamer Guy Beahm. Twitch banned him in 2020, but the reason was not publicly explained at the time. On June 21, 2024, former Twitch employee Cody Conners made a public allegation about the ban. Game Informer noted that Conners did not name Beahm in that post; the claim should be treated as an allegation, not an independently established account. Game Informer’s June 25 report recounts the post and the subsequent studio response.
On June 25, Beahm acknowledged that he exchanged Twitch Whisper messages with a minor in 2017. He characterized them as “casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate,” denied that anything illegal happened, and said he accepted moral responsibility. That acknowledgment confirms his account of the messages; it does not establish every characterization in the original allegations. The Washington Post’s June 25 coverage and PC Gamer’s account report his statement.

Midnight Society ended the relationship
On June 24, the studio said it had learned of an allegation and spoken with parties involved. It said it had initially assumed Beahm’s innocence, but concluded it had a duty to act on behalf of the people involved, its developers, and its player community. Its statement, reproduced by Game Informer on June 25, said: “For this reason, we are terminating our relationship with Guy Beahm immediately.”

Turtle Beach did not continue its partnership
Turtle Beach confirmed on June 25 that it was not continuing its partnership with Beahm, according to The Washington Post. Coverage also described a Dr Disrespect-themed headset, but the cited reporting does not establish whether that product is currently available. YouTube suspended monetization
On June 27, YouTube suspended monetization on Beahm’s channel, citing its Creator Responsibility Guidelines. A YouTube spokesperson told the Los Angeles Times the decision followed “serious allegations against the creator.” This was a platform decision about channel monetization, not a sponsor termination. The Los Angeles Times reported the action in its June 27 article, updated June 28.
The 49ers and NBA 2K were reported to have cut ties
The Los Angeles Times reported on June 27 that the San Francisco 49ers and NBA 2K cut ties with Beahm. How to distinguish the different actions
- Relationship termination: Midnight Society said it was ending its relationship with Beahm immediately.
- Partnership non-continuation: Turtle Beach confirmed it would not continue its partnership.
- Platform monetization suspension: YouTube suspended channel monetization; that is distinct from a brand or sponsor ending a partnership.
- Actions reported by a news outlet: The Los Angeles Times said the 49ers and NBA 2K cut ties, without direct statements in the cited passage.
The sequence is a record of organizations’ responses to public disclosures in June 2024. It does not settle the disputed characterization of Beahm’s messages. In his June 25 post, Beahm wrote, “Now from a moral standpoint, I’ll absolutely take responsibility,” while denying illegality. The Washington Post reported that Twitch and YouTube had not responded to its June 25 requests for comment; YouTube later made its monetization action public, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
