Assuming “the Forest” means Endnight Games’ survival-horror game The Forest, its ending gives Eric a choice: use the artifact to crash a passing plane in an attempt to revive Timmy, or shut it down and leave Timmy dead. The first route revives Timmy but ends with signs that his mutation problem continues; the second spares the plane and returns Eric to survival on the island.
How does The Forest end?
After following the island’s caves and reaching the Sahara laboratory, Eric discovers the connection between the artifact, the experiments and the missing children. At the final choice, he can activate the artifact. It brings down a passing plane, and Eric uses a child aboard as the live sacrifice needed to revive Timmy. That choice leads to the talk-show epilogue and later scenes of Timmy.
The game’s other option is to shut the artifact down. The plane passes safely, Timmy remains dead, and Eric burns Timmy’s photograph. The story then returns to island survival rather than continuing through the same epilogue.
What happens to Timmy?
In the plane-crash ending, Timmy is revived. The later scene, set when he is an adult, shows him examining a map marked “Site 2” and experiencing strange movement or lumps beneath his skin. The scene depicts an unresolved physical problem, not a clear explanation of its medical cause. Reading the symptoms as a consequence of the artifact is plausible from the story’s sequence, but the ending does not fully explain the mechanism.

What is the other ending?
Eric can choose not to activate the artifact. This avoids bringing down the plane, but it does not save Timmy. Eric burns his son’s photograph, and the game returns to the island’s ordinary survival loop. Neither choice resolves every problem: one brings Timmy back at the cost of another child’s life and leaves troubling symptoms unresolved; the other avoids the crash but accepts that Timmy cannot be rescued.
| Choice | What Eric does | Plane and passengers | Timmy and what follows |
|---|---|---|---|
| Activate the artifact | Uses it to bring down the plane and obtain a live sacrifice. | The plane crashes; a child aboard is used as the sacrifice. | Timmy is revived. The story proceeds to the epilogue and later shows signs of his continuing mutation problem. |
| Shut down the artifact | Turns the artifact off and burns Timmy’s photograph. | The plane passes safely. | Timmy remains dead; play returns to island survival. |
Is the alternate ending canon?
The Forest Wiki’s story page labels the shutdown route alternate and non-canon. That is the reference’s characterization, not a confirmed statement of developer intent established here. The distinction matters because “canon” is not settled by the scene alone.

Why does the Site 2 scene matter?
The adult Timmy scene points beyond the immediate ending: the map identifies Site 2, while his symptoms suggest his condition has not simply disappeared after revival. The story summary for Sons of the Forest connects Eric and Timmy, survivors of the Site 1 incident, with a search for a cure to Timmy’s uncontrolled mutations at Site 2. This supports reading the scene as a bridge to the sequel, while leaving the exact cause and intended meaning of the symptoms unstated.
The Forest is a game by Endnight Games, as identified in the game’s reference article.
