Queen of Tears ended on April 28, 2024, so the finale is no longer a prediction. Episode 16 gives Hong Hae-in and Baek Hyun-woo a hopeful future after a violent rescue and a difficult surgery—but memory loss and the final image of an elderly Hyun-woo at Hae-in’s grave make the resolution bittersweet. Here are ten pre-finale expectations, checked against what actually happened. (Soompi, April 28, 2024)
How does Queen of Tears end?
Spoilers for Episode 16: Hyun-woo rescues Hae-in after Yoon Eun-seong abducts her. Hyun-woo is shot while protecting her, but survives surgery. Police kill Eun-seong, and Hae-in’s surgery for her tumor succeeds, though it leaves her with memory impairment. The couple reunites and builds a life together, including having a child. A future scene shows Hyun-woo visiting Hae-in’s grave in old age. (ComingSoon’s finale recap)

The finale’s outcome is therefore hopeful in its portrayal of a shared life, but not uncomplicated: Hae-in’s memories are affected, and the closing image acknowledges that their life together eventually ends. The recap describes some memories returning but does not establish that she recovers them all. (ScreenRant’s ending recap)
Which 10 finale predictions came true?
1. Hyun-woo would risk everything to reach Hae-in
True. Before the finale, Kim Soo-hyun invited viewers to see how far Hyun-woo would go for Hae-in. In Episode 16, Hyun-woo leaves the hospital to rescue her and takes a bullet protecting her. He survives surgery. (Soompi’s pre-finale remarks) (finale recap)
#1 Best Overall
2. Hae-in would survive her illness
True, with a cost. Her tumor surgery succeeds, and the later scenes establish that she lives a long life. The ending does not make survival a return to exactly the life she had before surgery: her memory is impaired. (ScreenRant’s ending recap)
3. Surgery would change Hae-in’s relationship to her memories
True in part. Hae-in experiences memory loss. The finale does not confirm that every memory is permanently gone or that all of them return; it leaves that extent unresolved. The couple’s decision to make new memories offers the clearest emotional answer. (ScreenRant’s ending recap)
4. The couple would choose each other again
True. Hae-in and Hyun-woo reunite, and the future scenes frame their relationship as a continuing shared life rather than a return to an untouched past. Their new memories matter precisely because surgery has changed Hae-in’s connection to some of the old ones. (ComingSoon’s finale recap)
Rank #2
5. Eun-seong would be the last physical threat
True. Eun-seong abducts Hae-in, confronts her and Hyun-woo, and is killed by police. The finale closes the immediate danger through that confrontation. (finale recap)

6. The Hong family’s conflict would reach a reckoning
Broadly, yes. The finale’s recap reports that the family regains control and that Seul-hee faces consequences for her illegal conduct. This resolves the family power struggle at the plot level, alongside the more personal resolution for Hae-in and Hyun-woo. (ScreenRant’s ending recap)
7. The Baek and Hong families would move toward reconciliation
True. Both families gather around Hyun-woo during his recovery, and the recap reports that Hae-in recognizes her in-laws. Their presence at the hospital puts family support alongside the couple’s reunion. (ComingSoon’s finale recap)
Rank #3
8. Soo-cheol and Da-hye’s story would get closure
Partly confirmed. Before the finale, Lee Joo-bin pointed to Da-hye facing the wrongs of her past and their consequences. The available finale account supports closure for their storyline, but does not establish enough detail to make a more specific claim about their outcome. (Soompi’s pre-finale remarks)
9. The ending would offer a happy family future
True, with a bittersweet frame. Hae-in and Hyun-woo have a child, and the story shows them living into old age. That future supports a happy reading of their relationship, even as the final grave scene makes clear that their life together is not endless. (finale recap)
10. The final image would complicate the happy ending
True. The image of elderly Hyun-woo at Hae-in’s grave can make the ending feel mournful, even after the couple’s long life together. Actor Kwak Dong-yeon, who plays Soo-cheol, described it as a beautiful ending and interpreted it as showing that the pair lived their life together. That is his reading, not a definitive instruction for every viewer. (Kwak Dong-yeon interview)

Why the ending can feel happy, bittersweet, or unsatisfying
The happy reading: survival, reunion, and a life together
Hae-in survives surgery; Hyun-woo survives his injuries; and the couple has a child and reaches old age. Kwak Dong-yeon’s interpretation emphasizes the length and beauty of their shared life. (Daum interview)
The bittersweet reading: memory loss and the grave scene
The reunion does not erase what the surgery costs Hae-in, and the grave image places mortality inside the future the couple earns. The story offers a life together, not an implication that their happiness can last forever.
The critical reading: late turns and a conventional resolution
TIME’s April 30, 2024 review argued that the surgery and memory-loss turn reduced the story’s stakes and called the later resolution conventional. That is a published critical judgment; viewers who value the couple’s reunion and long future may weigh those same choices differently. (TIME review)

What the cast teased before Episode 16
The actors’ pre-finale comments focused attention on the same conflicts the episode resolves, but they should not be mistaken for proof that every viewer made these predictions. Kim Soo-hyun asked audiences to watch how far Hyun-woo would go for Hae-in; Kim Ji-won urged them to stay through the end; Park Sung-hoon pointed to Eun-seong’s climactic arc; and Lee Joo-bin highlighted Da-hye’s reckoning with past wrongs.
