Kelce attended Swift’s Kansas City concert
Kelce went to Swift’s Kansas City Eras Tour concert at Arrowhead Stadium in early July 2023. Accounts commonly identify the concert weekend as July 7–8, although the precise date convention varies depending on which part of the weekend is being referenced.
At the time, Kelce was already a Chiefs tight end, and the stadium was his team’s home field. He later explained that he wanted to meet Swift after the performance. Because trading friendship bracelets had become associated with the Eras Tour, he made one containing his phone number.
His plan was simple: give Swift the bracelet and introduce himself. It did not work. Kelce later said he could not hand the bracelet to her backstage because she had to preserve her voice before performing, and the attempted meeting ended there.
The failed introduction became a podcast story
Rather than disappearing, the story became part of an episode of New Heights. Kelce discussed his attempt to meet Swift and the bracelet on the sports podcast he hosts with Jason Kelce.
That public account was the turning point. In her December 2023 TIME Person of the Year interview, Swift said she heard Kelce talking about the attempt and that the two began spending time together shortly afterward. Her account supports the basic sequence: Kelce attended the concert, described the missed opportunity on his podcast, Swift noticed, and private contact followed.

When did Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce start dating?
The exact date of their first private conversation, first date, first kiss, or decision to become exclusive has not been established in a precise public statement from both of them. Swift described the relationship as beginning after Kelce’s podcast appearance and emphasized that they spent a meaningful amount of time getting to know each other privately before the public saw them together.
That makes the most accurate answer a sequence rather than a single date:
- Kelce attended Swift’s Kansas City concert in July 2023.
- He tried, unsuccessfully, to give her a bracelet with his phone number.
- He talked about the attempt on New Heights.
- Swift heard the podcast discussion.
- They began communicating and spending time together privately during the summer of 2023.
- Swift attended a Chiefs game with Kelce in September, creating their first major public confirmation.

What happened at Swift’s first Chiefs game with Kelce?
Swift’s appearance at the Chiefs–Bears game on September 24, 2023, was the moment the relationship became impossible to treat as merely a rumor. She arrived at Arrowhead Stadium and watched from a suite beside Donna Kelce, Travis’s mother.
The visual pairing generated worldwide attention, but the game was not their first meeting. By then, Swift said she and Kelce had already been communicating and spending time together privately. The game was instead the first major public appearance that confirmed the relationship’s seriousness to a broad audience.
It was also an unusually memorable football debut: Kansas City won 41–10, and Kelce scored a touchdown. The NFL and Associated Press reported that Kelce had invited Swift to see him play after he attended her concert.

Did Travis Kelce actually give Taylor Swift the friendship bracelet?
Not during the attempted backstage meeting. The well-established version of the story is that Kelce made the bracelet with his phone number but could not deliver it to Swift after the concert.
That distinction matters. The bracelet was part of Kelce’s attempt to meet her; it should not automatically be described as the object that physically passed between them. Later retellings sometimes compress the story into “he gave her his number on a bracelet,” but the more careful wording is that he made the bracelet and tried to give it to her.

Swift’s TIME interview is the strongest direct account of the early timeline. She said that Kelce’s podcast comments were what brought the situation to her attention and that the two began hanging out “right after” the podcast appearance.
She also explained that they had spent a substantial period getting to know one another privately before the public saw them together. That comment is why the September 24 Chiefs game should be understood as a public debut, not necessarily as their first date or first meeting.

Why the story became so public
The relationship connected two unusually visible worlds. Swift’s concert tour made the friendship-bracelet gesture recognizable to millions of fans, while Kelce’s podcast turned a private ambition into a public story before the two had appeared together. When Swift then attended a Chiefs game, the setting gave the relationship an unmistakable visual narrative: the pop star in the football suite, beside the player’s mother, at his home stadium.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce met through a near-miss. Kelce attended Swift’s July 2023 concert in Kansas City, made a phone-number friendship bracelet, and failed to give it to her backstage. After he described the attempt on New Heights, Swift heard about it and the two began spending time together privately. Their relationship became publicly evident when Swift attended the Chiefs’ game against the Bears on September 24, 2023.
The later milestones—including Swift’s public references to Kelce, his 2024 appearance on her tour, their August 2025 engagement announcement, and the marriage reported for July 3, 2026—followed that original Kansas City connection.
