She said the experience helped her grow personally and influenced how she worked with music collaborators. Her later role in Rob Peace shows she went on to act, but the available evidence does not establish that one film alone created a sustained acting career.
Cinderella was Cabello’s first film acting role
In Kay Cannon’s musically driven retelling, Cabello played the title character, a heroine pursuing her dreams. Sony Pictures describes the film as a musical reimagining, while Cannon characterized the role as Cabello’s first acting experience in a production interview with the Motion Picture Association’s The Credits. The lead role brought acting together with singing and performance, making it a distinctive first film opportunity.
The film premiered on Prime Video on September 3, 2021, and an original motion picture soundtrack was released. Those details provide context for the project, but the clearest evidence of its effect on Cabello’s career comes from what she said about the experience.
She said the experience made her want to act again
In an interview published by RTVE Playz on August 30, 2021, ahead of the film’s release, Cabello said: “Después de hacer esta película, me enamoré de la experiencia y de la actuación, así que espero que sea la primera de próximas que vengan.” In English: “After making this film, I fell in love with the experience and with acting, so I hope it will be the first of more to come.”

In a separate contemporaneous interview with People en Español, she called the film one of the most fun experiences of her life and said she would definitely love to continue acting in the future. These comments make the immediate effect clear: Cabello left the production interested in acting again. They express her hopes at the time, rather than proving what her career would become.
Cabello described personal and creative effects
Cabello also said the film helped her grow as a person. She described filmmaking as a communal experience, built around connection and intimacy with another person, in contrast with the more solitary nature of making music. She said that experience carried into sessions with music collaborators and inspired the process of writing an album.

That is Cabello’s account of the film’s influence on her creative approach; it does not establish that Cinderella caused a measurable change in a particular album or her overall career. She also said the character inspired her with “su fuerza, valentía y frescura”—her strength, bravery, and freshness.
Her later comments and Rob Peace offer a cautious measure of what followed
In a January 2024 Sundance interview while discussing Rob Peace, Cabello described music as her home and acting as a different, less familiar skill. She said acting felt fun while she was doing it. That suggests her interest continued beyond the Cinderella production, while also showing that she viewed acting as distinct from her established work in music.

A January 2024 report reproduced by Yahoo, relaying a Variety account, said Rob Peace director Chiwetel Ejiofor saw Cabello’s charisma in Cinderella and cast her without an audition. This is a reported link between the films, not an independently confirmed statement from Ejiofor in the available source material.

The evidence supports three conclusions: Cinderella was Cabello’s film acting debut; she said it made her fall in love with acting and hope for more roles; and she credited the experience with personal growth and a collaborative influence on her music-making. Her later appearance in Rob Peace is consistent with that interest, and reporting connects the casting opportunity to her earlier performance.
