Before performing with Jerry Seinfeld, she was so anxious she joked, “I don’t know if I’m breathing!” She also recalled watching the show’s writers make a small change to a scene that helped it land with the live audience.
What Anna Gunn played on Seinfeld
Gunn played Amy, Jerry’s girlfriend, in “The Glasses.” In the episode, George thinks he has seen Amy kissing Jerry’s cousin Jeffrey, but George is not wearing his glasses. Why the experience felt nerve-racking
In a 2015 GQ oral history, Gunn recalled being anxious before a scene with Seinfeld. She told him, “I don’t know if I’m breathing!” He replied, “I’m fairly sure you are.” The exchange captures her nerves, but also the humor of the moment; it does not suggest that she regretted taking the part.
What she noticed about the live comedy
Gunn also remembered a scene that did not quite work on its first attempt. She saw Larry David whisper to Julia Louis-Dreyfus, after which the scene was performed again with a small adjustment that drew a big laugh from the audience. Her recollection offers a glimpse of the fine-tuning involved in making a scene work in front of a live crowd.

How she later described the role
A 2025 SlashFilm article reports remarks Gunn made in a 2016 interview about “The Glasses”: “It was enormous. It was such a huge win, really, for me and it was so exciting and also so nerve-wracking.” The original interview text was not available in the reviewed source, so this quotation is best understood as SlashFilm’s report of her words. Taken together with her GQ memories, it points to an experience that felt like a career win even as performing on the show made her nervous.
