The reports available at the time did not establish how it got there: the White House said it was looking into the incident, while Farley said he did not know how it happened.
What appeared on the White House live page?
The stream belonged to Matt Farley, who posts on YouTube as @RealMattMoney. He was discussing investments and answering viewers’ personal-finance questions. The White House live page is ordinarily used for presidential appearances, according to PBS NewsHour.
Accounts of how long it was visible differ in their wording. The Associated Press said the video was visible for at least eight minutes. Bloomberg described it as appearing and disappearing for about an hour shortly before midnight Thursday. Those reports do not establish that the stream played continuously for an hour.
What did the White House and Farley say?
The White House said it was “aware and looking into what happened,” according to the AP. That was an acknowledgment of the incident, not an explanation of its technical cause.

Farley told the AP that he did not know how his stream reached the site, had not been contacted by the government, and had no theory about what happened. He said, “Had I known it would have been on the White House website, I probably would have had other things to talk about than personal finance.” He also described himself as “just some guy making YouTube videos about stocks.”

The available reports do not answer that question. The AP reported that it was unclear whether the website had been breached or whether someone in government had linked the video accidentally. Neither possibility was confirmed, and the reporting did not provide a final investigation finding or another verified explanation.
