The copy’s origin was unknown, the report said. Its sample filename included “InMemoryOfEVO,” a reference to the release group EVO.
What TorrentFreak reported
TorrentFreak’s April 6, 2024 report described the copy as a WEB-DL, a label suggesting a download from an online source. That label did not establish which service or person supplied it, and TorrentFreak said the actual source was unknown. The report showed this example filename: Dune.Part.Two.2024.1080p.WEB-DL.H264.AAC2.0-InMemoryOfEVO. It is a contemporaneous report of a release label, not an independently verified chain of custody. TorrentFreak’s account documents the reported filename and the uncertainty about origin.

Why the filename referred to EVO
TorrentFreak connected “InMemoryOfEVO” to EVO, a release group that the outlet said had leaked Dune: Part One before its official release. The article also reported that Portuguese police busted EVO in 2021, partly on intelligence gathered by the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment. Those details are attributed to TorrentFreak’s account; the filename alone does not show who obtained or distributed this copy.
What the report said about the film’s box office
At the time of its April 6, 2024 article, TorrentFreak described Dune: Part Two as having earned over $600 million worldwide. That is the report’s dated figure, not a current box-office total. TorrentFreak did not establish that the leak changed the film’s revenue.

What is—and is not—known about the impact
Warner Bros. Discovery’s 2024 Form 10-K discusses piracy and unauthorized copying as general business risks and describes enforcement efforts. It does not measure the effect of this particular leak or establish that it caused a financial loss. The company’s filing provides corporate-level context, not a leak-specific impact analysis.

Warner Bros. Pictures International’s official Dune: Part Two campaign page confirms the film’s identity. The early appearance described by TorrentFreak was ahead of the digital debut planned at that time in 2024; it should not be read as a current release-status update. The reviewed sources do not establish current physical-edition availability or stock in any particular country.
