Spoiler warning: This article discusses alleged Season 1 plot details, including the finale. It is a historical account of a pre-premiere report from August 2022, not a current leak alert.
What was the biggest House of the Dragon spoiler?
The headline spoiler was an alleged secret linking the Targaryen dynasty to the White Walkers: according to an anonymous Reddit user cited by BGR on August 5, 2022, Aegon the Conqueror knew of the threat and that knowledge helped motivate him to unite the Seven Kingdoms. The report said Viserys passed the secret to Rhaenyra, who later told Daemon.
Those details were claims in an anonymous user’s purported plot summary, not a confirmed account of how the series’ story was made or revealed. BGR explicitly said at the time that it could not confirm the reported spoilers.
What did the alleged Season 1 outline say?
BGR described the Reddit post as covering all ten episodes of the then-unreleased first season. Its reported outline alleged these major events:

These are details BGR attributed to the alleged leak. The article’s report of them does not establish that the Reddit source was accurate or that the post was the source of the finished episodes’ story.
What was actually confirmed about a leak?
A separate event was confirmed later that year. On October 21, 2022, TheWrap reported that the Season 1 finale, “The Black Queen,” had appeared on illegal torrent sites two days before its scheduled premiere. HBO said the file appeared to have originated with a distribution partner in the EMEA region and that it was monitoring and removing copies.

That confirmation concerned an episode file. It does not prove the accuracy of the earlier Reddit outline or the White Walkers claim. The two incidents are easy to conflate because both involved Season 1 material circulating before release, but they were reported at different times and involved different kinds of alleged leak.
Why did HBO seek removal of alleged plot posts?
On August 11, 2022, TorrentFreak reported that HBO had sent DMCA notices to Reddit over alleged plot material. The initial notice described a “Leaked full summary of episode 1 of the upcoming HBO series HOUSE OF THE DRAGON.” A takedown request shows that HBO sought removal of the material; by itself, it does not verify every plot detail attributed to an anonymous poster.

How does Fire & Blood fit in?
George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood is the source material BGR identified for the series. The book gives readers background on Targaryen history and the succession conflict that the show dramatizes. BGR noted that readers familiar with the book already knew much of the season’s broad story. That context is separate from whether a particular online post was authentic or accurate.

Yes, but it was a separate incident. In July 2024, TV Insider reported that clips from the Season 2 finale had appeared online and that HBO attributed them to an “unintentional release from an international third-party distributor.” That later report is not evidence for the 2022 Reddit outline; it concerns different material and a different release.
